We have any wargaming bods here? I used to be big into Games Workshop stuff (Warhammer and 40k) but recently I've been toying with getting inot WW2 gaming with Bolt Action and the add on Konflikt '47looks ace. I'm put off a little by the WW2 stuff as I get the impression that you'll be looked down on if you paint the figures the wrong shade of green or some other historically inaccurate faux pas.
I used to play WFB and W40K when I was younger. I've occasionally considered getting back into it but the cost and time commitment always stops me.
I played WHFB a bit, 40k a bit (not that into it), White Line Fever and Space Hulk. I'd love to get into playing WHFB again as I am a dork and love Skaven but don't know anyone who plays it. I also don't have the cash. I must admit....I do scratch the itch a bit by playing board games (Last Night on Earth, Dungeons & Dragons: Castle Ravenloft)...solo! *hangs head in total shame*
The Age of Sigma thing? Hasn't the WH RPG gone into some silly table top miniature thing as opposed to p&p?
I used to be into all the old MB gamesworkshop collaborations ie hero quest and space crusade. Then into warhammer40k (imperial and Ultramarines) and necromunda (Esher) as well as having a skavenblight bloodbowl team. Not played since I was 14 though. That stuff rips through your paper round money quicker than a coke habit.
Yeah they are factors. The Konflikt '47 stuff is interesting (WW2 never ended and went wierd!) because you can get a basic force for £70 or something and still have the scope for nice conversions and interesting add-ons like you get with 40k. You can also use a whole range of WW2 figures from different manufacturers so aren't tied into GW prices like 40k.
They've ditched Warhammer fantasy battle and changed the race names into easier to copyright IP (and therefore easier to go after people!). I'm thinking better home 3D printing will be one of the death knells of miniature companies. People will share 3D designs and templates for stuff and make their own.
I was lucky that all my mates played it, so I would just use one of their armies (one of my mates was incredibly spoiled and had about 3 huge armies) and we'd play. For Space Hulk I got a few Space Marines together, but that was about it. It is ridiculously expensive and GW are a right bunch of scammers.
I thought Rackham tried an interesting route with really exquisite models that they offered painted, but sadly they folded.
This ain't bad for 70 notes. Considering what £70 will get you at a Games Workshop. https://store.warlordgames.com/products/konflikt-47-british-starter-set
I was heavy in W40K years ago. Had several Space Marine and Imperial Guard regiments but my brother stole them to trade with his mate for porno mags. Been toying with the idea of picking up my paints again, if only for the therapeutic side of it.
Used to play Warhammer Fantasy Battle, Warhammer 40k, Space Hulk, Advanced Space Crusade, Advanced Hero quest, Warhammer Fantasy Role play, Blood Bowl & Epic. Yes I was a Games Workshop baby. Lived in the Nottingham store during school holidays.
