Hi, Unfortunately, we have had to remove the privilege of Private Messaging for new members. From now on, the same rules that apply to the Arcade will apply to private messaes - 50 post limit before it can be used. The reason behind this is that as MAP has grown, so has the opportunity for unscrupulus sorts to use it for spam. The most recent thing we have discovered is people registering accounts, not contributing to the site and spamming via PM. If you have reigstered before today, are a valid member and have contributed to the site and feel this is unfair on you, please speak to one of the global mods or Admin who will help you out. If you have registered after today, then you will need to reach the post limit before you can use private messaging or purchase a supporting membership. The idea of this is not to restrict any of our exisiting members, but to stop people hijacking the site for their personal ends. Saz
Backne, a permanant lease on their mother's basement and a strong aversion to sunlight and socialising?
I'd like to PM one of the mods or admins but can't. is there some way I can contact you please? Hope you can help. Thank you.
To email a Topic Moderator, you can use the links in their profiles. To contact a Global Mod or Admin, check this page for email addresses
Spam is unsolicted mail (posts in this case) advertising a product/website, so no it doesn't. If we find someone making junk posts to get their post count up, we delete them until they make proper posts or temp ban them if it carries on.
might want to rethink 50 posts. I work with a lot of forums (as they are a major part of our business) and the average for a post count to unlock PMs are 10-15. I've been around for 2 years and have made 40 something before yesterday. There are many people who prefer to ask questions privately than to put themselves in front of a crowd for flaming. Ultimately, if I were to spam everyone's PM box, I wouldn't bother posting at all first.
Crysis, Firstly, please stop artificially bumping your post count. I already posted in another thread you made on this saying it was against the rules here. You may want to re-read my original post where I said the following; "If you have reigstered before today, are a valid member and have contributed to the site and feel this is unfair on you, please speak to one of the global mods or Admin who will help you out." and then; "The idea of this is not to restrict any of our exisiting members, but to stop people hijacking the site for their personal ends." Many people have done exactly that instead of junk posting and spamming. Granted there are people who prefer this, but we have to look after MAP's best interest and strike a balance given that this is a free site we provide here. And people were spamming everyone's inboxes without posting first, which is exactly why we implemented this rule.
Saz, check your email please. edit: and the reason i made the previous post was that 50 seems like a high number to limit PM access. Most PM spamming bots are robotic and will not make posts before attempting a PM. 20 sounds like a more feasible number as with the amount of mods, a bot/spammer should not be able to reach 20 posts before spamming.
ust a suggestion, and I don't know if it has already been implemented, but I think that it would be good if an automated pm was sent to every new member telling them of this rule and why it is in effect. There seems to be a lot of people asking why they can't pm. Em
