ill stick spoiler tags around this in case people still havent seen the fight Spoiler I think after the weekend’s display I have to agree with Joe Rogan, he is prone to hyperbole but Mighty Mouse must be the best pound for pound MMA fighter at the moment, and he very well may be the most technical MMA fighter on the planet He dominated his opponent from start to finish (and what a finish it was) has the best striking to grappling game I have seen, and the best timed blast double going and his ground game is technically so sound its scary. Plus he is dominating a stacked weight class Not to mention his conditioning is on another planet, props must go to Joel Jamison for that, and to Matt Hume for coaching such a technically superb fighter. Aldo is the only one I can think of who is as dominant and technically as sound at the moment as DJ If you haven’t seen the fight yet check it out, it’s worth it for the finish alone
Spoiler Great fight. Johnson unfortunately doesn't get nearly as much respect from fans as less technically superior, less successful (from a fight record perspective) individuals. I don't know why - the lighter divisions have never been the most popular, and there's some awful rhetoric about his height putting people off circulating on some forums, but those are stupid reasons not to respect him. Anyone calling him or herself an MMA fan should list Johnson in their top 3 P4P fighters.
Spoiler bump because he went and made one of the most dangerous fighters in the ufc look clueless for 5 rounds, the most technical striker in the ufc, and the best at combing striking and clinch work as well, had to be the best p4p fighter on the planet, male or female
Only difference for me is MM is doing it in a stacked talent rich weight class, RRR is streets ahead in a thinner pool, not her fault at all though
Bumping this so I can put this video in, mighty mouse has the best striking to takedown game I have seen, and some of the best clinch work going, has to be best pound4pound fighter on the planet The clinic he put on Dodson last year was something else https://youtu.be/TZ9aLFUnP8s
Spoiler it's getting boring bumping this thread, but when he destroys a Olympic gold medallist in the first round like that what can you say apart from, well p4p the best on the planet and maybe the best mma fighter we have seen
My fav part of the fight was how mighty mouse got back to his feet when he was on his back after he was taken down...that was hilarious. The Jones fight was just awkwardly weird.
Spoiler final dump because it's not often you get to see the best ever in a sport at the top of his game destroying all comers.....he not only doesn't have a single hole in his game he actually destroys opponents where they are meant to excel
Spoiler So much yes - I marked out HUGE at this fight....favourite active fighter hands down, and up there as a P4P GOAT
Spoiler . So 150 to 16 or so total strikes thrown, probably the best takedown to submission I have seen, the number 3 ranked fighter totally dominated and abused, just like everyone else in the top 10.....we are very lucky to be able to watch the best mma fighter of all-time in his prime.... no one else has ever shown such diversity in striking, in clinch work or ground work, and no one else hunts for the finish like.mighty mouse [/QUOTE
He's going to get slated until he moves up a weight class. It's not fair because he's so light and nobody cares about anything below 155. Want to see him fight Cody Gardbrant. That fight would be spectacular and technically super exciting.
Slated by who? It's hard to slate someone who beats everyone put in front of him in a stacked division??
Like Ben said, idiots who've never fought. The division is far under-promoted. So everyone is a "tomato can" because nobody knows who they are. People don't like watching hem fight because they are so small. I don't agree, it's just the general consensus on MMA forums.
Couldn't agree more. I love the idea of that fight. Gardbrant is phenomenal. The fight would be insanely high paced and technical.
