I found this whilst doing some general reading and though folks round here might be interested in having a read of it. http://www.nutritionjrnl.com/article/PIIS0899900710002893/fulltext It challenges some of the most widely held diet beliefs.
Don't believe the hype. FDA guidelines are unsubstantiated and the criticisms leveled 30 years ago haven't been answered despite the recent 2010 guidelines recommending near enough the same diet, despite a decrease in health and increase in obesity and modern diseases like diabetes and the general diet moving in the direction of the original 1977 guidelines. That was a very interesting read, it was like a compilation of all the evidence against the 1977 guidelines which have been building for the last 30 years.
Bump because I just sent this to a friend and figured some people either missed it or put of reading it until later.
