I *think* that there were four different types available if memory serves correctly and yes, that included long and short swords. Personally I don't normally recommend my students get one (an iaito/mogito) unless they have a very specific interest in improving their sword technique and unless they have at least a handful of years of training under their belts so to speak. It's a lot of money to lay out for something that won't get used a great deal in regular training, at least in my classes. For the majority of students, a bokken and perhaps a plastic saya is more than adequate. In fact I recently bought a handful of such training weapons for general use in my classes although some of the students own their own anyway.
