At some point going to a chiro and just going true the adjustments week in and week out not really asking questions can get pertty depressing.

After listening to many of you guys telling me it was not normal to go to a chiro and still feel pain after a year got me pertty mad, some of my work buddies and friends also got in the mix and all hell broke loose.

My last chiro was a great person really trying to help me out but at one point he didnt have the proper techic to get the job done for good.

I confronted him before the xmas holidays and ask for clear and precise answers.

He then told me that he had been trying to adjust a vertebrae in the neck but didnt have the proper technic, it told him i was mad and he said he understood.

I practically had to tear is arm of to get another reference to go somewhere else.

He refered me to one of is long time friend and chiro, i was sceptic at first but this guy is amazing.

He took all the xrays he needed to take and gave me precise answers to what my issue is.

Now i have 10 weeks at 2 adjustments per week to correct the situation and then re-evaluation with x rays.

So far so good i didnt feel like this in a long time, is adjustements are far better then the other one.

Still frustrated because if the other chiro would have woken up and sent me way before this i would have been better faster.

Good to hear yannick I'm still skeptical of chiropractors but as long as they are up front and clear about everything they are doing, it's not pseudo-scientific nonsense and they end up making you feel better then it's all good! Oh yeah and also of course that they don't charge an arm and a leg!

That new adjustment is great and i really feel it, kind of weird being painfree for a whole day.

Creepy to see the job that has to be done on my upper neck vertebrae tough.

No wonder pain kept coming back all the time my head is bent forward and turns on the right side at the same time YIKES

You are so right about chiropratitors, this is my fifth one and i can see i saw three that where seriously crappy one that did a good job with my posture and this one which seems to be quit amazing? go figure

My eyes were opened to alternative therapy when my son was cured in 1 session with an ostiomyologyst (not spelt right) after the NHS had given up on him. Since then he has fixed my wife after a nasty fall, my daughters and a couple of people from MAP. He does a lot of work for the NHS now, saving operations. I'm sure there are many charlatons but when you find a good'un then it can be life changing.

    Yannik,
Good to hear you're on the road to recovery.

I'm frankly distrustful of most chiropractors. I know several first hand that have opened their own clinics here in Hong Kong where it's a very profitable industry. These particular ones that I know never come off as interested in what they do other than it makes money. The only focus I ever hear them on about is turning a buck and customer retention. Red flags go off every time they open their mouths.

One who was a room mate for a year or two is just a scammer coming and going. He now runs around with the title doctor on his card... fair enough since he's a Dr. of chiropractic... but if you heard him go on at length about 'wellness' and all this other hokey crap and his air of authority on the subject you just as soon as punch him in the gob as listen to his BS. Again... he's got no real interest in helping people... but he's got a very healthy interest in his bottom line.

I'm sure there are decent ones out there... but I've yet to meet them. Many of the guys who come through are gym have been to chiro's and finally said sod it. I've got a great sports physiotherapist who has more knowledge and skill in his toenail clippings than any chiro I've ever come across. He deals with many of the problems of our rugby teams and fighters here in HK. Many of the people I deal with I've sent there and so have the other PTs.

I realize now how hard it can be to find a competent physio therapist... and I'm glad we have one that knows his stuff and isn't just out to make a buck.

We were lucky to be recommended to ours by a muay thai instructor. We were getting desperate and thought we'd give him a go, thank Allah we did.
I've spoken to so many people that have chiropractors and physios and recieve treatment every couple of weeks for an injury that occurred years before.
My son was in quite a mess as his injury had been with him for about 2 years and was starting to effect the way he walked. He was 90% fixed in one session, he had to learn to walk backwards to teach himself to walk forwards properly, 3 sessions and a month and a half later he was fine.
Now if he has a fall or injury it's the first place we go, same with my wife or my daughters. Usually walking out knowing that waking up the next day will be pain free with full mobility.
    Never tried another, never will.
He's also an amazing nutritionist working with some success with very extreme illness. The local doctors are starting to send patients his way instead of surgery and to keep them alive.

I do feel a competant therapist or chiro or any other doctor should not only be skilled in is work but in nutrition and rehab program has well.

My first chiro was a women and she was in for the money, i flashed her my middle finger in the face the last time i saw her and told her she was incompetant she freaked out.

I think one of the biggest issue in healthcare is the lack of ability of healthcare professionals to explain the problem that a lay person can understand - something that makes sense. Taking somebody's word based on his credentials alone, sometimes, is not sufficient, they should be open for further questions. The other problem is we don't know what to ask.

    yannick35,

How long have you had back pains and how long have you been seeing a chiropractor?

I wonder how many people realise that chiropractors are not MDs and don't have to go to medical school?

Somebody that has an osteopathic background (usually has a D.O. initials after their name instead of MD) since they have a little bit of orthopedic knowledge than most and has a little bit more of hospital-based exposures.

I'm guessing not many. In fact I know several chiro's who only have the Dr bit on their card. They don't even bother to mention that they're not medical doctors. Granted they aren't out trying to practice medicine of that sort... but they sure will try and sell you 20 sessions of chiropractic adjustments to help you with that runny nose or to get you over those flu symptoms.

Our BJJ coach is actually an osteopath and he's right up front about what it will and wont work for. He's also right up front that he's not a medical doctor either.

I suspect a great many of them don't claim to be medical doctors but many are sure not entirely up front that they're not medical doctors either. Many that I've seen stand very much on the Dr. on the business card and funny enough... it sure as hell gets dropped a lot when they're trying to score some trim at a cocktail party.:D

Someone that takes the proper x rays, to find the problem. My other chiro took x rays but he made me bent my head forward backward side to side.

The other chiro took the x rays without any bending and saw what the issue was straight off the bat.

My old chiro wanted to cure me and help me but there was a lot of ego in this has well being there for a year and not getting the proper results where very frustrating. My old chiro told me that he didnt have the techic to adjust that vertebra that was causing the problem.

I was mad and asked him how long he planed to keep me there giving me adjustment that did nothing.

To answer you question a good chiro is someone who can give you a clear diagnostic and response to what your problem is like the one i have right now.

When you ask him if you can get back into martial arts or weight training he will tell you NO not before you are cured and the treatments takes its effects.

Not like my old chiro who said well try and see.

To think of it my old chiro was a bit of a moron and an ahole.

And this has not made you question the basis and worth of Chiropractic?

Sure, there's a small number of scientific chiropractors, but the fact remains that Chiropractic, at its base, is based purely on magical thinking and most chiropractors ('mixers') will to some degree accept some of it, and most will not alter what they do based on the scientific evidence.

Gosh after hearing everyone else's horror stories I consider myself lucky to have found chiros that do what you described above Yannick. Yeah there are many quacks out there and unfortunately (as has been brought up) many do it for the buck, not caring/giving a damn about the years lost to injury and disease. A sad state of a affairs when a piece of paper overwhelms compassion, integrity, and a desire to truly help.
