Hello! My resistance bands have finally arrived! Double checked the packaging, and everything seemed in place. Took the bands out, and wiped them down, and examined them. The foam handles look kind of shoddy, but the overall band itself looks, and feels quite decent. Feel like such a happy child! Image: Spoiler The order of resistance goes yellow, green, red, blue, and black, with yellow being the least amount of resistance, around 3 lbs, and with black being the most resistance, around 60lbs (or so the description claims). Anyways, giddiness aside, I have a couple of questions concerning resistance bands. First off, is there any beginner/general advice I should take heed of, like not to extend the band far, health concerns with things like the joint, what not to do, etc, those kind of things. Secondly, I'm interested in creating a separate, full body routine using the resistance bands. Are there any exercises you guys/gals recommend? To be more specific, I'm looking for two, maybe three exercises for each section of body (Upper, Core, Lower). Somethings I've looked at myself are: - Simon S's plyometric punching drill - Rows - Squats - Overhead Press - Back/Chest Fly's Exercises that work full range of motion would be nice. I've seen a couple of Slipthejab's videos with resistance bands like a year or two ago, but I cannot track them down. A link to those would be nice, as last I remember, they had very good band exercises displayed and demonstrated. On the related note, are there any exercises I should absolutely avoid? Besides that, any other helpful tips/stories/concerns/trivia would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance MAP! - Seventh
I have nothing useful to add other than please video the first time you let go of one at full stretch and it pings you on the end of the nose Where is Simon's plyo punching drill posted? Mitch
You can do some good core work with bands: http://thefitcast.com/video-band-resisted-anti-rotation-press [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gPMaIWtEfQ"]CresseyPerformance.com: Tim Collins - Wide Stance Anti-Rotation Chop - YouTube[/ame] You can use them to assist with chin up and pullups, or glute ham raises or use the lighter bands to do some shoulder prehab http://www.dieselcrew.com/how-to-shoulder-rehab And if you can get past Mitch's adolescent fantasies involving me, rubber and blonde Swedish women, then try this thread: http://www.martialartsplanet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93698
I have the same ones you have and tons of others - used every day. Good bit of kit to have kicking around. Below are some of the vids... but that's only just scratching the surface of what can be done. Toss resistance bands into a circuit and your golden.
How about this guy? This is all very well but I don't see why I have to get past my fantasies of Frodo, rubber and Swedish girls? Mitch Lots of good stuff here, I may have to invest in some.
Preps the cold shower for Mitch, in case he gets too flustered thinking about stuff he shouldn't at his advanced age...  If you want a good place to get bands in the UK, I highly recommend Alex Gold: http://www.absolutegolduk.com/ His customer service is excellent and his prices are good too.
Warm-Up: - SimonS’s 100 Punch Drill Set A: - Chest Press - Standing Ab Twists - Squats Set B: - Lateral Raises - Reverse Wood Chop - Hamstring Curls Set C: - Upright Rows - Overhead Thrusters - Calf Raises Rough Circuit Plan, will add time, reps and other details later. How does it look?
nice drill simon. although i am quite disappointed that you don't look like Mad Max like i imagined Thought i recognised that park slip. I use lighter resistance bands for light recovery work. However i do have some heavy ass military ones for pylometric work that i carry with me on holiday when i know theres no gym around (like at my grandparents house).
Tried out some band exercises during my workout today. Did some jabs and cross with it, and while it was challenging, it was a new experience and very, very fun. I was working with the least resistant band but even that gave me a challenge. Overall, great, and sore, fun!! (Will have more details in my training log later)
Just a small tip Seventh; many people when they try to punch fast start to circle the punches. Note in my video the punches come back along the same line as they went out. Do not circle the punches because your guard will be all over the place. If you have access to a punch bag swing it away from you and do rapid puches to keep it there. I minute 45 seconds 30 seconds 15 seconds. PS. Don't be dissin' the shorts. My poor leggies have never seen the sun.
Here is a good drill from Ian Abernethy. It uses a belt rather than the resistant bands, but the drill could be adapted I'm sure. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tD6AIdFKoIo"]Karate Belt & Pads Conditioning Drills - YouTube[/ame] In the second drill you could be tethered to the resistance band with the pad holder moving in and out of range, with you having to pull on the bands to reach him.
Like throwing the punches in sort of a haymaker fashion (to make a crude association)? So basically, keep the punches straight, tight and crisp. Also, thanks for the tip, I appreciate.
