I was gonna put these in the jujutsu section but I did a search for yagyu shingan ryu in MAP, and most of the results were in the ninjutsu section... Which makes sense considering the relationship between Takamatsu sensei and Sato Kinbei sensei. Anyways, I know a handful of kata and techniques, but I have to admit Ive never seen its bojutsu/kenjutsu work. Upon further investigation, I have realized that this is from a different line than Sato Kinbei Sensei... :: palm slapped firmly to forehead :: Oh well, enjoy them anyways and voice some opinions.
There used to be loads of YSR on youtube, have you had a good look at the rest? Not my cup of tea, but worth a look.
Yeah Ive seen lots of demonstrations from a few years ago and such.. I never stumbled across these vids tho. Which is strange cuz they've been on youtube longer :\ Oh well.
I thought Tanemura sensei also to Kachu Yawara Ryu (Sp?) but it doesn't appear as one of the ryuha on genbukan.org We certainly did some at a seminar I attended in the early 1990s.
There are several lines of Yagyu Shingan Ryu, two of the more established ones being Arakido (Kajitsuka Sensei's line, and my favourite to watch) and the Hoshi family line, as well as the lines headed by Shimazu san and Sato Kinbei's daughter.... All four demo at Meiji each year, and although they contain some of the same things, there are some major differences in what gets taught (Or at least what gets shown).. I believe that Tanemura Shoto's claim was to the line taught by Sato Jushinsai, since he was taught by Sato Kinbei... And it's not "Kacchu Yawara Ryu", but "Yagyu Shingan Ryu Kacchu Yawara", the "kacchu yawara" bit being the description of what they do "甲冑柔" (Armoured jujutsu). Regards..
This is one of many lines of YSR, but I should note that this line of YSR was studied by Ueno Takashi. I should also note that there was a fruitful exchange between Sato Kinbei Sensei and Ueno Takashi Sensei. Sato Sensei taught Ueno Sensei his version of YSR and Ueno Sensei taught at least the bojutsu of this line to Sato Sensei. Arashima, I think you have the name mixed up. The full name is Yagyu Shingan-ryu Heiho Kacchu Yawara. There is a ryuha by the name of Itten Ryushin Chukai-ryu jujutsu, but this is not connect to YSR at all.
Thanks for clarifying, it was about 18 years ago so forgive my poor memory. Which would have been the school with the Jojutsu? Would that have been YSR?
