    Captai Kirk!

That's too true... And countless early James Bond(s) used the Tomoe Nage to perfection.

    Don't forget Gene Lebell...

But seriously, Judo is great also for the fact that the blind can actually train in it to a high level. Even compete.

That says a lot about Judo.

(Now if I could only learn Spock's Vulcan Death Touch... )

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that Gene Lebell did a lot of the fight choreography for the star trek series?

heres a clip of Gene Lebell being awesome with added judo goodness :hat:

Most of the early practisioners of "martial art"s in the UK began with judo. Which ment we expected a fight when we were training.

ALL of the early shihan were exponent's of judo before taking up karate aikido etc.

Judo is exhausting and demanding perhaps that is why many chose to take up other "arts". Thankfully "to begin with" they too demanded effort and commitment.

The HARD training in martial arts in the beginning in Britain owes a LOT to the spirit that judoka brought to them..and still does.

I think people also just love to hit other people. The only disadvantage with judo I see is it has a pretty slow start up time to effective technique compared to some of the striking arts but once there everything is good

I would agree BUT a hell of a lot of the "martial arts" have no competition or resisting of techniques.

So you could train for years and then get the fright of your life in a real conflict.

Early judoka used to beat the crap out of each other and tended to be "fight minded" before they took up the art.

    And god help the mystics.

    I should have stated "some"

Funny how the arts nearest to the truth have the least B/S in their training

Warm up, technique with a partner, spar, warm down. If only everything in life was so simple

JAMES CAGNEY the first to show judo/jujtsu in 1942 filM Blood in the Sun.

Judo and jujutsu were often used with the same term back in those days there is even a book somewhere called Kano's jujutsu.
