I think I need a long jump rope, I have a rather short one is that just an excuse? Should I be able to jumprope with a rather short one?
A shorter one needs more skill, but it depends on your definition of short. When you're standing on the middle and holding each end, how high does the rope go on your body? Skipping requires a lot of things, so sometimes it takes a while to get the hang of it. Floyd Patterson says it took him a long time to get skipping down right but once he did he attributes a few things (including winning the HW championship at 21) to his rope skipping. Try doing just 300 jumps a day to start. Work 150 jumps with both feet, and then 150 jumps alternating feet. Buddy Lee is a good resource.

If it reaches the ground you should be able to jump with it. Jumping rope is all about timing so keep trying.
Or alternatively there's this  [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oktmn1cc9NU&feature=related"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oktmn1cc9NU&feature=related[/ame]
Because you spend too much precious time on internet telling TaiJiLou that he has no business doing MAs. Go practice, and lift your feet if the rope is a tad short! Osu!
Ok, aggression out of nowhere. Can you please quote me where I told that to him? Too much time on the internet? you have 1000+ posts since march
It was a joke, you're way too serious. Practice more and you'll get better at it. Who wouldve thought 0_o
Sure, here: http://www.martialartsplanet.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1074520661&postcount=182 Indeed, that was a joke, but you take it the way you like And you are darn right, I do spend too much time on MAP myself, it does nothing to improve my rope jumping... Osu!
If your using just a normal rope without handles, it's going to be much harder to start. Get one with handles and hold them out to the side, at your side. At first don't try to jump the rope, just jump when it's about 65 degrees towards you. I couldn't jump rope, then decided to try this way and it's easy. Here is a good tutorial : [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0BDLoVs3JA&noredirect=1"]Jump Rope Tutorial for Beginners - YouTube[/ame]
A spot of Ross Enamait does a body good: http://www.rossboxing.com/thegym/thegym26.htm Now I don't know the first thing about jumping rope but just watch the clip in this article. :jawdrop: EDIT: Also, just because I think Pudzianowski is the man: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCrRQ-pMpRs"]Strefa Walk: trening Aleksandra Emelianenko i Mariusza Pudzianowskiego - YouTube[/ame] Dude's apparently somewhere around 270 pounds here, and yet all you can hear is the rope smacking the ground. I'm feeling kinda ashamed of myself now...
i hated jumping rope, they made us do it at the kenpo school i was at for 2 months, I never could get the rythm the others had when they could go all out with no pauses between jumps, I could only make one jump then pause i could never jump nonstop.
Nothing wrong with that Blade, it is how we all started and how we should start. The trick is to keep going with that technique until comfortable then aim for two or three jumps. Slowly, slowly does the trick.
Butbutbutbutbut.... you're a GIRL! I always thought you lot were BORN with that ability... ... well, that and the ability to throw knees to the groin on reflex.
Maybe. I only did it for 2 months. I didn't see any improvement in myself during that time. But I don't know anything about it, lol, maybe 2 months isn't long enough to see anything. idk.
Unfortunately for me I was also born with an underdeveloped cerebellum and that affects EVERYTHING. Not using that as excuses, mind you, but it does help to explain stuff. despite that though, I do well with the Shotokan Karate, which shows I am able to improve. Possibly I would too with skipping rope if i did it long enough, but i never did. So I am not gonna pass any judgements on myself http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerebellum well my knee to the head worked pretty well my first time trying it while learning kata heian yondan where you grab the shmoo's ears so.....Hmmmm *thinks*
Hey, I don't plan on getting nearer than spitting distance to a jumping rope anytime soon. And the best excuse I have is cba. Poor defenseless females...
bwahaha I love watching it though. I'll turn on the double dutch videos on youtube and watch those peeps are amazing.
I can do all of that stuff but haven't yet got the form to do continuous double unders. The punk rope tutorial was good. Recognised that I sometimes jump too early, and that would definately work against a double. I work at keeping my arms close to the body but maybe not forward enough of my hips
