This game brings up a lot of questions. What happens when someone gets knocked out? Do they get a replacement or are they handicapped until he regains consciousness? Is there such a thing as a penalty? Shot to the jewels? Was this game created in jail or in a penal colony ?

We used to do something a little similar every now and then at the end of a session back when I practiced Ninjutsu. We would call it Murderball (I have no doubt it has many other names across various other places it is played, as I doubt it is something that was unique to us). Basically we were split into two teams. The instructor would walk around the outskirts of the matted training area. The ball had to be placed in his hands to score a point, and had to be passed three times before you could score. There were no punches to the head, so it wasn't quite as extreme as you see in those videos above, but locks, throws, techniques, etc were all allowed within reason. Was actually quite fun.
It's telling that in this 2:56 long "ballgame" clip the ball only appears for 2 seconds. Also, at 2:05 a guy throws a head kick. In a ballgame. That doesn't even need a punchline, that's just awesome.
This does show you how ridiculous the "Chinese invented football" retro-history is. This is the sport that was supposedly influenced by the Chinese sport, and it bears what resemblance to European football exactly?
I thought that was Alessio Sakara. I bet he's had a go at that sport. There are all sorts of crazy old sporting events in Europe. That horse race around a town square? The Palio di Siena. It was "football" basically - if I remember correctly that was about Tudor era. Was banned because of the amount of injuries that could be sustained running across a several mile "pitch" with almost no rules What about the stupid pinching matches and shin kicking competitions, or that awful one of chasing the cheese wheel down a hill? You'd never get me playing that last one...
