Since the beggining of the year, i have been mugged 7 times. in which 5 of them we chased down the guy and caught him. But its getting really annoying and Pretty dangerous.
This city has been unsafe lately, due to some kind of people migrating from Choco, but anyways..
Isnt there a way? Carring weapons isnt the answer; i would be in legal problems if i attacked someone with a weapon.
What should i?I dont wanna get mugged again, i'm sick of it.

I would have to say travelling in groups would definetly help, a single or 2 people won't attack a big group of people. As far as weapons go, it might be a good idea. If you actually get in a situation where you have to use it, if you tell the police that you have been mugged alot before and that is the reason for having it, it should be ok if the weapon isn't illegal.

Considering where you live. Man, I just don't know what to tell you. Jump through whatever hoops you have to to carry a gun? Move? Get a pet hyena?

I don't know what you carry as far as weapons go...but when carrying a weapon there is always a chance it could get used against you anyway.

    Travel in groups when possible.

If you've been mugged so many times, what is the common denominator? Is there a pattern you could change in your daily routine to make your travels safer?

I'm confused though....you chased down some of them and caught them? Please explain more so we can get a better understanding of what you're going through.

Can you move? Canada is a nice place, with very friendly people! ;)

There's also a chance you could be hit by a meteorite. The best research we have on the subject indicates that it's an incredibly rare thing.

you would do well to look up stats on crime and how many people end up being cut by the knives they carry.

im confused too. you got mugged and then chased them down? and being mugged 7 times since the start of the year, are you sure you didnt somehow get transplanted to Rio? you need to look at some of your habits I think. have a penchant for dark alleyways?

How were you able to chase the people down? Muggings are mostly carried out by people you don't know.
You have to review your 'travel' plans. You are obviously exposing yourself to much.

Well, by chasing down, i mean i chased him while shouting "Get him, He mugged me"
Taxi drivers here hate muggers, and they beat them really hard when they catch them.

Escrima(sp?) Stick are legal here and are not a deadly weapon.
Do you think is wise to carry them?

Not a deadly weapon? If you beat someone in the head with an eskrima stick, they're as deadly as any other. It's just a question of how you use it.

Seems better to revise your personal habits. Where and when you travel, for instance.

Well. i have to walk a certain path to home. i cant avoid it, and sometimes i have to do it at certain hours at night.

Heh, i know what happens with a head when you hit it with an scrima stick. It would be like smashing an egg with a hammer.
i mean using it like in his arms.

I see your point. I'd worry, though, about the legal system's view of what you're proposing. Ya know?

Try carrying a Canemasters cane. They're made of ultra hard hickory. They don't look like weapons, but they are. But you'll have to get the manual and practice with it to be any use. The cane is part of our regular curriculum in my local TKD class.

There is no way on Earth I would choose to face the cane while armed only with a knife.

so why exactly do you have to go through this horribly dangerous place to get to uni?

That's exactly what I was going to recommend! :D Canes are perfectly legal the world over, and with a bit of practice can be quite formidable as weapons.

Also, Ikken has a point, you might take another look at the city map and see if there's not a better, albeit longer, route.

    Good luck! Stay healthy.

7 Times is an insane amount of muggings, get a Kubation (looks like a key ring) and get poking...

If I lived where you do...first off I would change something about the way I travel...and would no doubt carry a weapon...even a gun if possible

There are 4 diferent kinds of mugger.
    The snatch and run mugger
The blind side mugger who apears out of doorways etc with no warning
The defiant mugger who attacks without ritual or fear of the law
The professional mugger who plans his attacks and uses deception as a way in
Enviromental awareness is the best way to avoid the first three, but an understanding of ritual of attack is the only way of avoiding the fourth.
These are the ritualistic steps of the latter if you can spot the ritual in its early stages you can avoid attack.

The Ideal victim is someone who is either daydreaming or not paying attention to their surroundings, the automatically detaches you from the herd.
Victim selection often occurs in sparsely populated areas. The mugger wants as little fuss as possible when executing his attack, he favours the quiet park/street etc but this does not mean that you are safe in busy areas such as shopping malls etc this is where the mugger often spots and stalks his victims following them to somewhere he deems it safe to initiate the attack.
You have to be confident and switched on, if the mugger see's that you are aware of you're surroundings he will leave you alone preferring instead a more easier target.
The way you can practice awareness is walk through crowded areas and take in the details as you go recite to yourself what you see eventually you will do this subconciously without having to recite what you see eventually it will be second nature.

carry a huge knife around, so when the mugger sees you he will be like OHHHH SHIZZ

edit: like in that one crocadile hunter movie where some guy tries to mug him, the hunter says "thats not a knife, ill show you a knife" and then pulls out his huge knife

not the best idea but good luck with your decision

Well, i started carring my 2 escrima sticks made of a southamerican wood called Macana. Those hit extremely well, and they saved me already.I do not hit in the head since a blow with those could produce a head fracture, but itarget at any part of the body besides it. And the police its ok with them.

Here, they dont target who is daydreaming, they just fall at anyone, and they rob whetever you have.
