I do : D! She's all of 100 lbs though, and I'm about 230. It's really not much of a challenge but the kicking and screaming does really work the stabilizing muscles.

It transcends that. Our attempt at calling "squat day" by labeling it "squat day" is about the same as trying to understand God himself. We call something that is incomprehensible to the human mind "God" and we call "squat day" . . . "squat day." But the meaning is lost if you just adhere to the common persons logic, reasoning and understanding of the ritual and spiritual journey that is "squat day."

My two .40 caliber pistols aren't really heavy enough to get a workout in with squats? Although as far as shooting being a martial art it could be a form of decent weightlifting practices for martial artists by performing squats with the pistol raised. A few pounds get pretty heavy after a while with your arm extended out.

I have similar problem with space. As my gym is likely closing I've already been asked if there is any kit I'd like to buy, and yes I would but have nowhere to put it. Even the prowler and sled (though I will give that one serious consideration)

I was going to suggest if your wife had a twin sister tying the two together would make a more challenging squat but it probably wouldn't reflect well on either me or you

    K, genuine question here.

I read this interesting article concerning heavy weightlifting and boxing, and I'm confused to be honest. Part of the article says:
    Also....

    http://www.expertboxing.com/boxing-...-lifting-weights-wont-increase-punching-power

Is this true, not true, or is there a different story here. I'm really confused here.

I'm short on time to reply but this is absolutely wrong. Get your deadlift up to 2 1/2 X your body weight while continuing to train your boxing, then tell me if it made you slower and the power you gained wasn't worth it. There are plenty of professional boxers who had to train with weights to move up a weight class. This means they had to get stronger and hypertrophy. I don't think their opponents opinion of them was "oh, they're slow now, won't have to worry."

Muscle doesnt make anyone slower. People simply stop training for SPEED! THAT makes them slower! Remember, muscles are made of two fibers: Fast twitch and slow twitch. One governs strength, one speed. Training in one fashion, say strength, will develop fast twitch muscles primarily, while not doing much in comparison, for the slow twitch fibers. One needs to train in both aspects, developing both fibers for both strength AND speed.

Look at how fast american football players can sprint. Why? Because they train strength AND speed. According to the mentality this article touched on, american football players shouldnt even be able to run to the bathroom quickly. Not so, my friends. Not so.

the quote is probably based on dudes trying to bench press to punch harder, which is dumb. to punch harder, do squats and full-contact twists, or something similar.

does this look slow and along a limited range of motion?
