How many times does a man have to say "Two men with panties on" before it sounds like it's all he can think about?

Reminds me of Melton Bowen(Pro Boxer) entering UFC, and stating he had no respect for the sport, or anyone in it..then he got hip thrown, and submitted by Steve Jennum by juji-gatame. I bet that hurt..Melton is VERY strong though..

    Hip throw 2.41

    Juji Gatame 4.41

@rocket3 calling B-hop a washed up boxer sort of shows how much you follow boxing. Which is to say... not much.

Was anyone expecting one of the toughest dye-in-the-wool boxers from Philly no less... to be an MMA fanboy? What planet are you guys living on? The boxing world is very conservative... you're not going to find many MMA fanboys amongst them. Doesn't happen. I've worked in many gyms that have had both... boxers and mma fighters... and the two generally keep their distance. So in context are his comments all that surprising? Not really. Quite obvious for anyone who's spent time around fighters from either discipline.

This has sort of happened before - it's a common subject.

Mayweather himself went off on a couple of rants about MMA begin for "white boyz" and "beer drinkers". Apparently the only reason white guys like it is because they can't compete with blacks in boxing. He also says that a good boxer would own any MMA guy etc - all the usualy crap.

Dana White offered to immediately match him with the current UFC champ and the next week Mayweather responded with a public apology to all MMA fans and fighters. I don't doubt that most of the average boxers might believe the same, but the better boxers, the more experienced fighters, know that they're talking crap. At the end of the day, boxing is losing fans and money because of MMA (and because boxing for the last 20 years or so has been on a downward spiral anyway) so they have to spout this rubbish to keep interest in the sport.

    I agree with this 100%...

The only comment i am going to throw in is. If a boxer got slammed to the ground and was put in a very effective hold. They would then have a whole new appreciation for MMA.

It's horses for courses, within their respective rulesets, boxers and MMA fighters reign supreme. The whole Dana White/Mayweather controversy was like an American football player mocking basketball players and then a basketball coach demanding the football player go one on one with Kobe to prove his point. Two different sports, why the hate?

But they're not completely different sports and thats what gets me. They're both fighting. Fighting is fighting. the only thing thats different is what they allow - everything you're allowed to do in boxing is allowed under MMA.

the equivalent doesnt match when comparing other kind of sports because the goal is not the same.

Before MMA who was at the top of the tree?
The only comparison made between boxing and martial arts was who would win in a fight against Bruce Lee. Now lifes a little different

No, they're related sports because they're both derived from fighting. But that doesn't mean that they're the same.

And what point are you trying to make with the "everything you're allowed to do in boxing is allowed under MMA." Everything you're allowed to do in MMA is allowed at a Dog Brothers meet-up, but so are sticks and practice-knives. If an MMA guy went into a Dog Brothers meet without preparation, he'd get owned because he's not used to getting stabbed, just like if a boxer went to an MMA event without preparation he'd get owned because he's not used to groundfighting or kicks.

Does that mean that MMA is inferior to Dog Brothers meets? Of course not. Different strokes for different folks and all that. Same with MMA and boxing.

I think five years ago you'd have been bang on. Now I'm not sure sure. We've had Arlovski and Silva working with a top boxing trainer like Freddie Roach, not just for the odd session either but for extended periods of time. We've had top boxers like David Haye publically express his appreciation for MMA and his intention to try it in the future.

Along with that their was the short lived deal between Golden Boy and Affliction to co promote shows. It never happened but it did show how seriously some boxing promotions are taking MMA as a business.

I often go on boxing forums to look at equipment reviews etc. It does seem to me that the atticute has changed on them in recent years. Some of them have an MMA subforum these days, unthinkable a few years ago.

What you say about boxers and MMA keeping separate in gyms hasn't been true from my (quite limited) experience either. My boxing trainers have never done any art apart from boxing but they like the UFC (though not the fights that are almost all grappling!) and are very interested in the training I do at my MMA school. The same was true of the boxing gyms I used to go to in London and Northampton.

I really don't think Hopkins views are typical of the avaerage boxer or boxing fan anymore. I think theres generally a lot more respect and acceptance these days and his views will only get more antiquated as the new generation grows up watching, and being fans of, both sports.

    get of my back <removed>

I'm 17 I am the future audience of combat sports I know who Sakaruba, Royce Grace, George St Pierre is Iv never herd of this gimp beyond his name, when did I say I followed boxing beyond the occasional fight (almost certainly more than this idiot follows MMA), with douche bags like this why the hell would I want to ? he may not be a fan (I don't even consider myself a "fanboy") but does that excuse him making ignorant, misinformed and dumb comments like these ?

"So in context are his comments all that surprising? Not really. Quite obvious for anyone who's spent time around fighters from either discipline." listen to the nick of this guy, I have spent plenty of time around fighters Boxers and Mixed Martial Artists why does there have to be anything but mutual respect between either (especially when you consider that most young men doing mma would most likely have been in the boxing gyms twenty years ago), trying to paint it as anyone but pro Boxers talking crap about MMA is nonsense. The Fans of both Sports Dont feel that way, MMA with common sense don't feel that way only Pro Boxers are the ones trying to drum up attention this way.

Actually, and I'm sorry to say this, most young men who do MMA these days would NOT have been in a boxing gym 20 years ago. They'd have been at a mcdojo. MMA appeals more to the average socially inept Itraindeadlystrikesinmybedroom type than boxing does.
