Tosh Go wild forget the car & get a motorbike yeh it'll be a bit impracticable... but you'll arrive at work like this -> !!
Arnold is putting on some pretty heavy pressure The paper was full of em today...........mammy. http://www.arnoldclark.co.uk/NewCars/default.aspx No chance to bike, I'm too much of a musci head to miss the tunes in the car I'm afraid. Nothing beats cruising down the motorway on the way to training with some cracking tunes on the go
Arnold Clark, combined with Rover, is about as palatable as your mates stripping you naked on your stag night, and leaving you greased and chained to a lamp post outside a Gay Bar.
Citroen Xsara, 1.9D. This is the best car we've ever bought, very comfortable, a good size (just about fit all the kickshields in ), economical, nice 'cruise' speed and looks respectable. Can't recommend it more. Diesel rocks.
My mates were to afraid of me to try any of that stuff. Sounds like you like to be submissive Matt, or did you mean you bought a Rover from Arnold Clarks.
Anyways. What are your requirements Tosh. Mileage, bootspace, passengers, prestige etc? I'm no expert, but I'm researching my next car myself, so I'm reading a lot.
I'd preferably buy new. Bootspace isn't really an issue, 4 and "weekend" luggage would be nice but is not a must. As I said before I'm more interested in shape than prestige, but since the too mostly good hand in hand it is sometimes an issue. I/m happy driving a New Punto at the minute, so I'm no boy racer but sleek would be nice. And above all a nice finance deal/price.
No such thing as Interest free credit. If a company can offer you Interest free, it means they can afford to offer you a discount, and you're better served seeking finance from your bank, or an independant broker. Be mercenary. Once you know the car you want, let the dealers fight amongst themselves for your business. Tell them you've had a better offer, and be prepared to walk away from your dream car. Take their 'best price' and bounce it off the competition. Then, and only then, seek out your finance, but do the same, get the best APR% and terms. Make em work for you, cos sooner or later, they'll be tying you to that lamp post.
let's see....9 grand...that should get you a nice 1950's morris and a few months of insurance too, you lucky guy! but seriously, don't spend the budget on the motor without thinking about these things. and services, MOT's, tax, etc. etc.
I'd go for something like a 18 month old Mondeo, Vectra, 406 etc, will have lost a big chunk of its value because theres loads secondhand and your getting plenty of car for 6 - 7 k
Just a quick update. Reckon for the short term, and since I quite like the one I drive just now. I'll be thrifty and go for a 1.3 Punto Active Sport JTD. Anyone heard any dodgy stories about FIAT's revolutionary engine going *pffft*? No doubt I'll find out if it's any cop tomorrow during a test drive
