Tried wing chun today.

    That just isn't smart training. That leads to injury, which ultimately leads to less training time overall.

    Pain is OK IMHO. Damage is what you want to avoid. :)

    Pain is good - it toughens you up and leads to ways in recognising how to mitigate pain in the future - rolling with punches, absorbing joint and nerve attacks.

    If you are really smart, pain leads to avoiding contact when it can be avoided - some things you cannot absorb - edged/tipped weapons.
