I took this post from Kutaki no Mura. I thought it raised some interesting points, for us to comment on. I also thought it would be interesting to add our own concepts and ideas.

Okay. I understand what this means, but having said that, sometimes it is important to do alot of something to build raise your fatigue threshold. A long time ago, during a tournament, I got into a heavy exchange of leg kicks aimed at eachothers thighs to wear eachother down. My legs started to feel really tired but because I trained alot by doing kick reps against a bag, he wore down faster than me and became sluggish quicker.
Just a thought to bear in mind.

Haven't watched a whole training video yet and I don't plan to. It's like me going to a judo dojo every night and just watching the class in the thought that this will make me learn Judo. That worked for Master splinter...not for me.
Of course many of you will disagree and thats fine its my opinion only.

The Daikomyosai DVD's are excellent. You can pick up alot from them.

It's always a good idea to ASK permission before reposting someone else's writings. Plus, give them credit for it.

I think you may owe someone an apology.

    Sorry Duncan
In my defense though, you're no longer a registered user on Kutaki no Mura, so I couldn't see your user name ! ;)

    Thanks Kikaku, but not interested.
I pick up alot from class. That's all I need.
I'm a touchy feely person. If I don't feel it working on me, I'm not buying into it.

    Expand your senses ! :D
You can pick up on alot of the feeling, IMO.

Video works for some people, not others. The same with books. Me, I get a little something out of all media, so to me it's worth having them. Imagine trying to do sanshin at 40000 feet. Funny looks form the passengers and on commercial flights, sure to get the attention of the Air Marshalls :D

Of course, the videos do that too. But usually just frm the flight attendants, who want to know what I'm watching.

Yes but watching dirty anal kelly on a commercial flight will always get eyebrows twitching!! :D

There should be a training lull part in there which i seem to be going through at the moment

In all seriousness, man, I pick up the feeling in class. I get the feeling when a punch is coming straight at my face with no holding back that if I don't move and move quick I'm gonna get one planted straight on my nose. LOL

I watch my sensei move, see the ebb and flow, the might without the need for muscle, movement and the momentum and I get the feeling.

I don't need the TV for that.

Sure porn is good...but it aint nothing like your hands on a real women.

    My 2 cents

Rubber Tanto, I agree with you to a certain extent, but videos to me are never a substitute - rather a supplement. When I'm not training, and I'm doing something regular at home like cleaning or writing or something, I put on a Hatsumi DVD and just have it on in the background. Though I've seen them many times now, I always see something new. It's just my way of learning Taijutsu when not learning Taijutsu :D

    Same with books.

And both videos and books work as inspiration for me too :)
