Here in Tacoma yesterday a Police officer was shot and killed while responding to a call about an injured dog and a domestic dispute. In the standoff that ensued, the armed suspect held his children captive and used them as shields. Several officers stayed in the house attempting to negotiate with the lunatic but eventually the swat team got an opening and took him out.
