Things BJJ'ers don't like about BJJ

The bullfighter pass is an open guard pass where you grab the sleeve and pants at the knee on the same side and take a step back while pulling on the sleeve. It kinda looks like a bullfighter's "ole" move, hence the name...

At least that's what we call that pass where I train.

 

The pass you describe is not what we mean by bullfighter pass in my school. I rest my case.

 

While you should have showered at some point that day, unless you're really stinky for whatever reason it's not perfect to shower directly before. Increases risk of skin infections because skin oils are washed off and the skin is dry.

 

I'll stick to saulo's terminology!

As yours is an around pass, with a knee grip, its a type of bullfighter pass anyway, just a variety for when there sitting up.

I do something similar to a half broken spider guard, there's a nice armbar of it if your quick.

It's mostly because BJJ is open source Martial arts, a lot of new names are given to new moves, its one of the reason BJJ is so effective, but all the fundamentals have define names, with a few variations in English.,

Catch wrestling just has too many names, I know the ones my coach uses, but Tony Cecchine uses other names, and its just too darn confusing........

 

Billy Robinson has a hilarious take on it (but too NSFW for here) - essentially if you have your toe in a different position the Japanese want to give it a different name, so he said he used to just make them up!

Billy Wicks has solid rep and was a legit Carny wrestler

Tony doesn't have much of a rep - he never competed but picked up a hold or two over the years.

Far more damning than the Wicks incident was the infamous "Gotch Tape"
