A fair amount for someone his age

as his MMR will be good - well excellent for his age. Still there comes a point when hitting that 16 year old stage where he will really excel!

Should be good though I guess.

This has been dragged up again by Wang Jang in the High-performance kicks thread. I am not happy to let this rest.
1st. The 'nasty crap' is based on fact. In a Guardian article, the person responsible for his training freely admitted that he operated by 'calorific restriction'. i.e. deprivation of food followed by artificial supplement.
2nd. What about HIM? is he enjoying a happy childhood?
3rd. There are several good reasons why 10yearolds do not generally have huge muscles tacked onto them. Among these are:
1.They do not have the emotional maturity to handle it]
2.They are NOT physically capable of sustaining this level of adult growth. Blacksmith's apprentices always grew up to be cripples for example.
3.Childhood is a time for mucking around! The hard work should come after!

    Here's another take,
Young wrestler Dzhambulat Khotokhov, a 4-year-old Russian weighing 56 kilograms (123 pounds) with a height of 118 centimeters (3 feet 11 inches) flexes his muscles before wrestling against Georgy Bibilauri, a Georgian, who turned 5 on Wednesday, 120 centimeters (4 feet) tall and weighs 51 kilograms (112 pounds), in Tbilisi, Wednesday, July 9, 2003. Wrestlers Georgy Bibilauri and Dzhambulat Khotokhov had both hoped for victory, but they settled for ice cream instead. After the boys tied on the mat, they went off to celebrate Bibilauri's birthday with ice cream and chocolate.

Heh, I wonder if he has any skill? He looks too fat to be able to do anything apart from use his weight.

That's completely wrong of the parents, letting a kid that age get that fat. He will have serious problems in life.

Is he a 'Genetically Gifted' Piano player?

Does his Father make him eat a specialised diet in order to be the strongest piano player, pound for pound, in the world?

I think he's genetically gifted, I heard somewhere that his father was raised the same way....I am not sure though but in the videos he seemed pretty satisfied with his training...ie they are not forcing him to train...

In the long history of child prodigies they nearly always end up going off the rails at some point, or at least rebelling against the very thing that put them in the spot light i.e. there parents especially when they become aware of the money aspect.
I agree with the the others, kids should have a childhood.
My 5 year old asks to do some Tai Chi with me and practise applications when he sees me practising them.
I let him follow me through the form and do what ever moves he wants to do as a fun thing, this usually lasts for a few minutes until he gets distracted by something else which is fine, it should be fun .The thing is at 5 years old they pick things up really quickly and there may be a temptation to try and teach them more and more. When the time is right and they want to do it then fine,if they don't want to do it then there is no point in forcing them.
I would have serious doubts that Richard's parents are doing this for him with no thought of financial gain for themselves.
