So you're just attempting to derail the discussion by creating a pure hypothetical that's almost identical to the thing that's actually being discussed? want to change the question any more? Bob Sapp won the K1 Grand Prix
The starting point for the discussion here is a specific video of a specific strongman vs. a specific fighter, so it's not an unreasonable assumption that all this is what is being referred to. The "who says I'm talking about THAT" line does nothing except muddy up discussion by forcing people to double-check if everybody's on the same page.
Flip side of the coin..... [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xWVCSHymgE"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xWVCSHymgE[/ame] Of course this was after people found out if you hit Bob he tended to curl up in a ball so he lost a lot of mystique
Then of course we have..... [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJuQP0hO6s4"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJuQP0hO6s4[/ame] Which was cool and all, but seems less impressive when you look at this.... TBF if Crocop punched me I think I'd curl up in a ball. To be entirely fair to Sapp the punch did smash his zygoma.
Think this was after sapp had made a fortune off the Japanese obsession with freaks lol, he was one scary athletic monster who wrecked k1 with almost no skill when he first came along though
Then the poster boy for "smaller guy vs bigger guy" [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wW_btInPLl4"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wW_btInPLl4[/ame] For some reason I cannot find the Severn fight, but that is a great illustration of the principle
I thought it started with southpaw giving an opinion on my general statement, but I've obviously been unclear seeing as I've confused a number of people. I was just interested in others' opinion on the general principle of size and strength differential. Do you see it as an exponential curve? Once you hit a certain point on the scale any other differential becomes practically insignificant?
Wow! Interesting fight videos there Hannibal. I've been a fan of Ernesto Hoost and consider him to be quite a technical kickboxer but in that fight he seemed to be overwhelmed by someone much larger with alot less skill. Watching it i was still thinking Hoost was going to win.
+1 for McGregor winning that fight. McGregor might have a hard time hurting him, but (assuming) that mountain knows no grappling whatsoever then it's the same the other way around. Striking I also give it to McGregor. One punch from the big guy and he is out but I've watched him box and he gasses after about two minutes.
Yes. It's not just that Bjornsson (taking an example) is so heavy, it's the fact he is stronger physically than McGregor (taking an example) could ever hope to be. I haven't even talked about his height and reach yet. When Bruce Lee trained with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bruce Lee said "He caused me more problems than I caused him" or something to that effect. At some point size and strength differences get so great that martial arts training cannot reduce the gulf enough. Nature is many things, but fair it ain't.
take it from the guy who's 1.5m tall and weights 58kg (5 feet and 130lbs for those who don't use real people numbers ): any sort of fair fight against someone bigger and stronger is a bloody pain in the ****. could macgregor win? yeah, but literally all that hafthor'd have to do us land a solid leg kick, and it'd be a miracle if conor's leg doesn't snap like a twig (of course he has to land it in the first place). bjornsson's skeleton alone probably weights more than macgregor already.
How would Macgregor win though? By running around throwing a leg kick here and there, not getting touched and winning on points?
Big guys have the same size head as everyone else. Hit them hard enough and they go down. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srhO2Ug9t8M"]FIGHT - Little man knockout BIG man!! Insane SHOT!! - YouTube[/ame] [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9KWTPr5XiM"]Kid punches a bully in the face and double legs him - YouTube[/ame] How would the big guy win? Throw a few hayemakers and gas? Grab hold of McGregor and then what? Knows zero submissions, try punching someone while holding their arm. It ain't easy because they're still fighting back and there isn't nearly as much power because you are trying to hold them and the range is quite bad.
Bjornsson is a full foot taller than McGregor and 250lbs heavier. Mcgregor needs to reach his head. Pick him up and throw him down hard? He doesn't need submissions, with the size difference if he lies across his upper body the fight will be over. Unless you pull planes for a living, are 5 times stronger than your opponent and have a foot's worth of extra leverage and angle.
For every video anyone can find of a smaller person winning I can find a video of a bigger person beating a smaller one. I don't think anyone would argue its impossible, but I struggle to accept that its ever the likely outcome when you reach a differential like Mcgregor and big dude. And Mcgregor is a very special case on top of that.
