    Dear guys and girls,

In the latter part of the newbie flexibility sticky the consensus seems to converge on the point that strength training (preferably weighted) and isometric stretches is all that is necessary and good for you. Considering that I am very prone to varicose veins especially when performing weighted squats, I have to avoid weight (and high pressure in my legs) as much as possible. My doctor recommended me to stick to bodyweight training.
However, this leads me to the following questions:

    - If being strong makes you flexible, am I now doomed to plankhood?
    - Also, how much pressure is exerted on the veins in your legs bij isometric stretches? I did them once but they felt really heavy, including the urge to keep my breath.
    - Are dynamic and passive stretches really a waste of time?

I'm looking forward to your answers!

    Regards,

    Phronetic

I would suggest talking to either someone like a sports physio, or exercise physiologist.

They'll give you much better advice than some of us here (though there are physical therapists on MAP) and will also give you a programme to assist with your flexibility.
