I've done a few styles of Silat (Harimau Berantai, Cekak, Fitrah Sejagat and my family's style) but tonight I'm starting my study of a new style.

I'll keep the name a secret for now.

See how everything goes in a year, then I'll disclose the style's name.

    Hoping for the best. :)

What sort of reply are you expecting?

Anything "secret" in the martial arts is cause for concern and anyone keeping secrets even more so.

    Nothing really.

But I will keep those interested updated. ;)

I've eaten a few types of cheese (Cheddar, Stilton, Double Gloucester, Wensleydale and my wife's mum's homemade cheese) but tonight I'm going to eat a different variety.

I'll keep the name a secret for now.

See how everything goes in a year, then I'll disclose the cheese's name.

    Hoping for the best. :)

    Haha, I like that analogy.

But I'm keeping it secret more out of respect as I will be discussing both its pros and cons here. Mentioning its name might be too sensitive to some of its members, especially since I'm a new member. Remember, I'm in Malaysia, one of the birthplaces of Silat. We take it very seriously here.

Cheese makers don't hit you if you point out their bad points. :p

But in a year, I would hope that I can then promote it a bit. :)

    They might do!

I'm glad you took it in good humour. Good luck with the training.

Don't eat much cheese so I don't need to worry. ;)

    Thanks.

Wow, and I did not even say the birthplace, I said 'one of the birthplaces'...

    :p

Giving reviews and updates on something where we don't even get to know what you are reviewing seems rather pointless.

I am going to review a movie, but you won't know what movie. How will you know if it is a movie to see or not?

    It makes no sense.

So, in an effort to wring some actual content out of this thread, why have you chosen to add another style of silat to your background?

Not really to wring anything out of anything really... :p

I believe I should keep on learning and this is a style I've always wanted to do. Been looking for the right time for some years now.

    Why the secret?

There is such a thing as expectation for a surprise, you know? ;)

Btw, the first class yesterday was awesome!

But I'll need to unlearn some stuff that I've carried over from other styles. :p

I wish you'd just tell us the style! I really can't wait to know...my whole Christmas will be ruined if I don't know.

Then perhaps it would be best not to post at all?

Isn't unlearning some stuff again a hell of a job? It took me years to unlearn some bad habits i picked up from the Kempo I did.

Yes, it is frustrating when your body just naturally wants to do stuff your mind doesn't. :p
