Indeed. This man procrastinated for 44 years, and look what he achieved. A shining example to all of us procrastinators :p.

The more I read about old time lifters, bodybuilders and strongmen the more I find stories of people who were in top physical condition in their later days.

John Grimek, a bodybuilder born in 1910, could squat over 400 pounds of weight for many reps.. in his 70's!! http://ptcfrankston.com/doc/newsletter/72/15.jpg

This gentleman here, Karl Norberg http://www.oldtimestrongman.com/sites/default/files/images/karl_norberg_barbell_holdout.png
could bench press around 100 kgs in his 70's. Have in mind that he wasn't even a professional lifter or bodybuilder, but a physical labourer who was lifting heavy weights in his spare time..

I also remember that Jack Lalanne, a gentleman that might be known to people from USA, beat Arnold Schwarzenegger in a chin ups and push ups challenge.
Schwarzenegger was at his 20's when this happened and Lalanne was 54 years old!!
    Through his 90s and until
his death, Lalanne still trained two hours a day with 1.5 hours of lifting and a half hour of swimming a day.

Were these guys unreal or what??

nope not unreal they just had a passion for what they do which they never gave up

Maybe im in a lucky position but i dont find this stuff that unusual, my powerlifting club is run by a 63 year olds masters 3 lifter who started competing before powerlifting was an actual sport and before it was split from weightlifting and is still setting world records in his class.
Another of the coaches is in his mid 70s and has had cancer and a bypass and can still squat twice bodyweight and bench well over bodyweight, we have 2 other master 3 lifters, a couple of master 2 lifters (50+) and a shed load of master lifters in their 40s

I have been lucky enough to be on the platform crew spotting at national events for other lifters in their 60s and 70s who still love their sport and wont give it up for anything

And yes guys who stay active have much better muscle tone and range of movement than those that give up in their 30s
