Since there are a lot of BJJ'ers on this site I'd like to know how many of you compete in open tournaments. Matches with other clubs and with opponents you actually haven't rolled with before.

Please list the following if you can:

    1) How long did you train BJJ before competing?

    2)
How many opponents in your first competition?

    3) What belt level did you compete at in your first comp?

    4)
    How often do you compete?

    5) What weight class (lbs./kg)?

    6) How many win's and how many losses?

    7) What move did you get submitted by most often?

    8)
What move did you submitt others by most often?

    9) How many minutes was each match/round?

    10)
What was your favorite part of it?

    11)
How old were you at your first comp and how old are you now?

    12) How long before you entered a NO-gi competition?

Thanks in advance for any responses. :)

Ive competed at 2 tournaments. Both times I was around 1-1.5 yrs in BJJ. I was a white belt. It was fun, but I was nervous. My record is 1-2. I won my win with a guillotine. That one had 3 4 minute rounds. I was up on points and caught him in Round 2 during a scramble. My 2 losses were by points. They were single 4 minute rounds. I have not been tapped in competition. I competed at around 155. I have not in a while becuse I've been lazy and I wont compete unless I'm in great shape. In one of my losses I gassed out. I was ~32. I never competed on no gi.

    1) How long did you train BJJ before competing?

No prior training in BJJ before competing. I sort of jumped right in. I was wrestling competitvely in the Army and doing judo so I just tried my luck.

    2) How many opponents in your first competition?

I had 15 matches. I entered both Gi and Nogi in my weight and the open weith categories.

    3) What belt level did you compete at in your first comp?
My first BJJ comp was the International German Champion III (IDM III) in Neuried. At the time BJJ was still pretty young so the competitors were only matched by weight. So I went against blues, browns, and a Black Belt (Frabrico Nasimento)!!!! I actually TIED against him in the match, score was 2 and 2 be both scored a takedown.

    4) How often do you compete?
Regularly. I hit all the local ones in a 2hr radius and fly to a couple of big ones.

    5) What weight class (lbs./kg)?
SuperHeavy @ 220lbs but thinking of dropping down to 205

    6) How many win's and how many losses?
Too many to count but way more wins than losses.

    7) What move did you get submitted by most often?
Nothing regularly. I've only been submitted 3 times this year in competition. I got caught in a heel hook, armbar, and straight ankle.

    8) What move did you submitt others by most often?
Armbars and ankle locks are my usual ones but at the All Army Combatives Championship last Nov all my submission wins were by chokes.

    9) How many minutes was each match/round?
5, 6, 10 minute rounds for the Blue and Purple belt level and Intermediate and Advance level. At the South Carolina Submission Grappling Championship the had no time limit for the Advance and purple and up categories. I thought that was cool because you saw some good JJ going on.

    10) What was your favorite part of it?
What I call the "family reunions" when you see people you've competed against or other teammates again. When all the Gracie Barra guys get together it does feel like an acutal family reunion.

    11) How old were you at your first comp and how old are you now?
    29 then, 32 now.

    12) How long before you entered a NO-gi competition?
Entered Nogi in my first comp.
