Someone awarded me a blue belt.

I didn't even buy it off the internet for myself like I've threatened to do for at least 5 years.

LOL, that's awesome, dude!
I've been considering giving BJJ another try (because at my age getting punched in the head in boxing is not entirely healthy), and you've encouraged me!

Congratulations! BJJ belts are earned, not given, so well done!

As someone else said, you now have a huge target on your back for white belts. This is not a bad thing as it encourages you to keep your game up. And you will still get caught by them sometimes - don't let that be a discouragement.

Unfortunately, perhaps, you now also have a target on your back for other blue belts and for purple belts who now think they can safely go a bit harder with you, give you more pressure. This is also not necessarily a bad thing as it encourages you to keep your game up.

It's said that blue belt is the broadest belt - people often stay longer at blue than at other belts. It's the one where you learn the most in terms of racking up a repertoire of techniques. I think that also makes it the most fun - there is always something new to learn but you already know enough so that you can start using the new stuff straight away.

Huh, I thought you were a judo guy, not BJJ. Anyway, I turned 46 last month, and only now, only now, am I feeling slower. Like, I was still awesome at 45 but now, boom, all of sudden aging is finally happening. (Whoa!) So I appreciate the "old man" point of view. :)

    And yeah Righty!!!!

    Thanks everyone! :D

Still a lot more to learn.

Pretty much the same, except all the blue belts and above suddenly start trying to wrist lock you.

    Postman *cough*
My current club actually has a curriculum and grading days where you demonstrate requirements if you are nominated. It's a bit different, but when in Rome ...

    Then there was the gauntlet.

Damn, if you are only feeling aging at 45, you are doing pretty well.

I started out with Judo and JJJ, but made a few changes along the lines and learnt new things.
