Mastro Silat Defense System has been featured in a couple JCVD movies lately. I saw a video of it, but I can't find it right now.
Dredd was shooting first, just fyi... Merantau and The Raid failed to show true Silat, for me at least. I'm sure the fights were good but you wouldn't know it is Silat. Unlike Tony Jaa, Van Damme, Steven Seagal, Jackie Chan and of course, Bruce Lee, Ikon Uwais still has not developed his own stylistic look. At least for me, again. Hope he gets better at it though.
The Raid, I'd agree with. You didn't think that Merantau looked like silat? I'll have to watch again. (And I'm no expert anyway.)
It only looked like Silat in the beginning while he was in his village. He went to town on them in town, the Silat looked very Jackie Chan-ish... Probably because there was a Hong Kong stunt team present.
I recall that it was a deliberate decision in The Raid not to make it look like any particular style of silat.
*shrug* I'm always interested to see other styles used in fight scenes. So they could have gone "more silat" and I'd have been happy.
Yes, they should've gone more Silat. At least for the main protagonist to show Silat's uniquenes and superiority. The baddies could've just done whatever. Just my thinking.
Oh, I think Mad Dog could have silatted up the place a bit more as well. Certainly he's got the chops to do it.
