Santa brought me my 2nd Dan promotion. Well actually I had to fight for it! For a jolly fat man he moves pretty quick! We had three Master level BB's oficiating, and five 2nd or higher BB's judging. Our testing lasted only about 4 hours, but there were only two of us going for 2nd Degree, and one person going for her 3rd Dan (she got it! -- she's an amazing Martial Artist and only 17). For 2nd Dan we had to break at four stations, each two inches thick, two hand techniques and two foot techniques. I broke with palm heel, hammer fist, side kick and axe kick. Of course we had to do our patterns up to Gae Baek, but to make it more challenging we were doing them all out of sequence. Probably the most challenging part of the test though was the theory (for me). 10 pages of questions about the patterns, principles of power, etc. etc., that we had to work on in between sparring, breaking and forms. No time was specifically set aside to work on the theory so you just had to grab your test whenever you were allowed to get water or any other spare moment. Any way, with the drills, the sparring, the forms the breaks and the grueling theory portion, I felt like we worked pretty hard for it. As soon as the BB testing was was over we had to officiate the color belt testing. That always makes me feel better about my form!
LOL. Thanks Medicine Woman! (I should point out that DQ trains where I do, and was one of the students I judged in the color belt testing. Now where did I put my big "FAILED" stamper?)
Hey, well done. All santa brought me was a 6 star hangover and a coffee maker, but no bloody coffee to go with it :bang:
Thanks. Pretty proud of myself, actually. I started TKD at age 36 or 37, so it's been a long strange trip, (now aged 44). Never thought about getting this far back then, but now I sure am glad I put in all the hours, (and hours and hours).
Hey, very cool! I started this year at 37 and am the very beginnings of my studies (actually in TSD)... Thanks for sharing that info on when you started. Definately gives me hope I can reach a BB level if I keep pushing myself. Congratulations! Kay
Keep going Kay, you can make it no problem. Feels good being an older martial artist and still able to keep up with the young 'uns.
Congratulations Kwang Gae! Second dan is a very important step in the Taekwondo journey. Most schools have 2nd (and sometimes 3rd dans) dans do a lot of the teaching. Also, a lot of times 1st dans quit (once they realize the black belt did not make them super-human) so they never reach this milestone. Second dan is quite an accomplishment! What do you get to learn as a 2nd dan? Miles
Eh... I got my 2nd dan and I only did my forms...kumgang down..(you did the forms in their entirity, but did them out of sequence?) Or did you do them all backwards i didnt get to fight santa...*dies from jealousy*
