I suppose it was inevitable, considering the change of circumstances in my life. It kind of sneaked up on me, but I think I have grown up a bit  The car that have been my pride and joy, my beloved impreza has been sold. The car that took me places, usually rather quickly and smile enducingly. It was a tearful day for us both, his engine light came on as I was giving him the final clean and polish to go for his valuation and eventual sale. It was a hard decision, but one that needed to be done, moving further away from work and doing 55 miles a day. The petrol costs in good old blighty are just a killer. Not to mention that the subaru specialist garages all the staff wear masks and stripy jumpers. So he went yesterday and I am the proud, hmm, new owner of a Ford Focus tdci sport, if there is such a thing as a sporty diesel But the consoling thing is, that I managed to get a top trade in price that with the money that the garage will need to spend will mean virtually no profit for them, a 6 month old low mileage car cheaper than any I could find on the net. The cost of the new car was about the same as it would have been to get the scoob in running road legal condition So kinda new car for free, or that is what I keep telling myself and trying to confirm that I made the right decision by staring at the excel spreadsheet that I compiled with the relative costs! So rest in peace sccob, I'll miss you.
Poor Stan, I kind of feel your pain. My bf had to get rid of his lovely Calibra as we didn't need 2 cars, had just bought a house etc. Good deal though, and sporty diesels are quite cool actually. Sensible decision,AND you have a beautiful new dog to take your mind of it
Cheers Su Lin, part of the reason was the dog as well can't throw her in the back of the scoob to take her to the lake district for a run and a play, with my new diesel I can and it won't cost me £30 in petrol to get there
You know, it's only a car, you should get the bus, think about the environment and carbon footprints and that...
Yeah but Chimp this was an Impreza, they are very very special indeed! The Lakes will be the perfect place for the dog
Unfortunately the bus is not an option Chimp, I work shifts and the buses don't tend to run at 2am back to St Helens when I finish work. Plus a 2 hour public transport journey after a 10hr night shift would be a killer!! I'll just have to keep my carbon footprint for old times sake As its a diesel I can run it on chip fat, saving the planet and making the world smell of chips making the environment a nicer place to be!!! The scoob was very special, was the car that I always wanted, in the colour and the model I always wanted to own. Not many people get to drive their dream car, let alone own it for 2 years. The lakes will be great with the dog, although the drive won't be as much fun with the focus as it used to be with the scoob The little stuffed scooby do that i had is now homeless, the parcel shelf in my focus is now adorned with a beanie husky
Beanie husky? Where did you get it, owning one of those will be the nearest I ever get to having a husky! It's fun driving in the Lakes though, even driving round there in my Clio is fun
It was a birthday present from my girlfriend, I'll ask her where she got it from when she gets home later. I thought at the time that it would be the only husky I'd own Only 3 weeks to wait for Sky to be able to go out and the lakes will be hit very soon, no matter how cold and wet it is!!!
Interesting, but no doubt they'll stick a whacking great turbo on it and it'll drink like the petrols do
Sorry for your loss my friend - a car that can make you smile just by looking at it is a rare and special thing to own - well it is for ordinary mortals who don't earn lots and lots. I hope the outings to the lakes with your dog will make you feel better.
lol... comedy thread. I know the pain of losing good cars. The two that made me shed a tear or two was: 1) 67 Impala Super Sport What a car. Big... solid... and simple to work on. Sleek lines... straddled the line between lowrider and hotrod. Sigh... it was pretty much the first car I ever learned to wrench on. It was simple enough that you could learn on it. Not like newer cars I'd owned that were a nightmare with 8 gazillion vaccuum hoses and fuel injectors and all that nonsense. 2) 67 VW Bus I probably spent more time living in this bus than in any of my flats. Some gas in the tank, spare time and a quiver of surfboards and you're set. You didn't need anything else. Well... it did need some get up 'n go.. but that was easily remedied by throwing in a Porsche 1911 engine. So damn quick off the line. I gave them both up to come to Asia.... lol. You've made a great choice... a dog or a car... a dog is the better choice. By miles... absolute miles... especially given that it's a Siberian husky!
What car was it MD? and do they sell em in blighty!!! Thanks for the support guys, its a pain that is difficult to describe giving up a beloved car, taking a 130bhp drop in a few short hours. My girlfriend says she prefers the new one to the scoob, but what does she know she drives a corsa!!!
A6 TDI. It came with 180 but a superchip later. Should be able to do your Focus http://www.superchips.co.uk/models.php You can get them a lot cheaper, but as a guide
Oooh!!! That's an interesting thought!!! Almost as interesting as the garage that bought my car advertising it on the internet as an STI even though its just a WRX, false advertising me thinks.
I'll pm you before I ever buy a new car just to make sure I don't go to that garage! If they'll do that what else have they got up to?
Feel free matey, what is worse is that my car needed some work that they can't possibly have done so quick. I sold a specialist car to a car supermarket and was a little unscrupulous when I did so. I just hope that whoever comes to look at my old car knows a bit about scoobs, or they could find themselves with a hefty bill.
Sorry for resurrecting my own thread but, in relation to post 14 where I cast aspersions on my girlfriends car as being a "corsa" I have been encouraged to point out the following. 1. It is not just a corsa, it is a "c'mon" corsa 2. It is brand new, bearing a 07 number plate which is "newer than mine" 3. It is red. Thank you all for your participation in this thread and for your sympathy.
