Apparently Ronda's next opponent will be Sara McMann, I have been watching some of Sara's fights and I have to say I am highly impressed with her skills as well as her attitude. She proves you can be an intense competitor without letting it go to your head.

What do people think of Olympic level Silver Medal Wrestling vs Olympic level Bronze level Judo?

Sara's striking is very brutal and aggressive as well.

    Thoughts?

I need to go rewatch some McMann fights before answering this.

I will predict FotN! This is going to be one AWESOME fight! And I do think it will be closer than the Tate/ Rousey one. Tate hung in tough, but was clearly losing in all but a couple of seconds of that fight.

I am a huge McMann fan ever since her fight with Baszler. Oh, and I agreed with the judges decision and thought she won that fight. I know many disagree though.

I just watched her last fight with Sheila Gaff, you can find it online pretty easily. Her grappling is top notch, and her striking is aggressive and efficient.

If Sara can keep it standing, I think she dominates, but Ronda showed that she is very very good at getting the fight to the ground.

I think it's the toughest possible fight for Rousey. Until now she hasn't really fought anyone who could honestly be called a specialist - she's fought people who are better at certain things, but I don't think you could look at any of her opponents and say 'this person is a world class striker or a world class grappler'.

This is going to ignite A LOT of debate at my judo club! :D

    Unanimous decision for McMann.

I still haven't gotten around to rewatching some of McMann's fights.

Here are the keys that I will be looking for.

Is her striking better? I seem to recall it is. I believe Rousey will ultimately be beaten by someone who's strikes she cannot handle.

How does she fight off her back? There is no way anyone fighting Rousey will get away with not being thrown down at all. How will she deal with it?

I don't think it's as easy to throw an Olympic Silver medalist in wrestling. And Sara's striking is hard as hell. She has a ton of power.

No, it isn't easy. But Rousey is a top notch Judoka (is that the term?)

I do not believe Sara's wrestling is so far above Rousey's judo that Rousey will never succeed in any throws. I think McMann will defend better than we have seen in any fight vs Rousey so far. But not enough to avoid being thrown completely.

I have been watching a lot of Sara's stuff in the last few days and I don't think Ronda has ever fought anyone of her caliber in her entire career. Nobody can ever predict anything in MMA 100%, but after looking at the matches the only hope Ronda has is to stick to her one trick pony. Even sloppy stand up tends to catch Ronda, and Sara's stand up is knock out capable. If she tries to dive at Sara she could pay for that. And Sara is VERY capable of slamming the crap out of Ronda. Some of her matches remind me of Rousey slamming Tate in the last fight. She is starting to remind me of a female Randy Couture.

Would McMann be so worried about getting thrown though?

I mean, of course you would rather no be thrown but she may not be so worried about going to be ground. This is me guessing as I know next to nothing about Mcmann.

Watch some Sara McMann fights, you won't be dissapointed. I don't want to sound like a fan boy, I only discovered her recently myself but her ground is rock solid and her stand up has knock out potential. Her conditioning is also really top notch. I have never seen her get winded even when a fight goes to the cards.

Im a Sarah McMann fan as well and have been for some time. The woman can wrestle and will potentially give RR some trouble.

As much as I am a fan of Sarah's and would be overjoyed to see her win...I've an intuition that RR will end up with the victory. Possibly by strikes. (!)

Ronda is a nasty one. She's very strong and very mean and very, very determined to get the win. Those factors have and will continue to keep her at the women's top until someone stronger, equally determined and just as nasty as she comes along.

There is always that chance that a "happy Warrior" type will roll some strange dice but it is statistically what it is.

Having said that...I'm definitely wanting to see what Sarah and her wrestling are able to do!

Sarah has been trough a lot in life. I hope she wins. I see Ronda winning though. Dont wanna say by armbar, so I say by kimura.

Hopefully she proves me wrong! WAR MCMANN

Premise: Ronda wishes to showcase her striking game.

( For the sake of argument lets ignore the likelihood that RRs coaches have determined that a striker/wrestler matchup is not a good one for the striker or that Ronda will be able to change her gameplan according to how the fight is progressing with McMann and have trained for this game-change )

scenario one: Ronda has indeed improved her striking game and overwhelms McMann with punches of unexpected ferocity and volume. Ronda by referee stoppage.

scenario two: Ronda has improved her striking but McMann's superior wrestling negates all attempts by RR to turn the fight into a standup. Ronda gets in trouble but switches gameplan's in the middle (having previously trained for this possibility) which momentarily throws Sarah off her plan and Rousey muscles her way back and sets up a sub. Rousey by submission.

scenario three: Ronda intent on showcasing her striking ( or anything but an armbar ) stubbornly refuses to acknowledge that McMann is successfully eliminating her striking game until it is too late. McMann via sub ( seriously, I just don't see this happening at all but I've put it out here as a mathematical possibility )

The most logical thing would be for RR not to engage in a striker/wrestler fight to begin with; Sarah will not be expecting a protracted standup campaign by Rousey which is why we just might see this play out.

Anyroads, I'm looking forward to this one more than any other recent UFC fight. The quality of Sarah McMann and what she will bring to the mix is really the key element here.
