I suffer from shin splints. I'm trying really hard to master them once and for all recently, I've been icing them every night and now they are feeling almost normal. I've began stretching the muscles involved and I want to start working on the strength of them soon to.

Which brings me to the question, am I right in thinking the exercise above will isolate the muscles along the front of my shin?I will do calf raises to keep the muscles balanced.

Yup....That'll work the front...The muscles there aren't so easily developed, so you can probably relax about the balance, but make sure to train with normal calf raises anyway to ensure that what's there is maintained..

As an aside, doing that movement with no weight is also a very good exercise, since those muscles are only minimally used it doesn't take much to work them hard..

    Regards..
