Basically, I agree with this: "Andersen should stick to demonstrations of speed shooting and leave questions of science, history and modern archery skills to people who actually know something about those things." - http://geekdad.com/2015/01/danish-archer/ If he was just marketing his stuff as cool trick shooting, no-one would object. Here's an awesome historical Hungarian archer for comparison: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yorHswhzrU"]Archery Rapid Fire Hun Archery Kassai - YouTube[/ame]
IMHO you always need to think about that when looking at videos. Like Danny Mcaskill's bike videos. You see the best takes initially but only get the outakes, falls and prep if you watch the "making of" bits.
So, even as I'm sitting here seriously contemplating leaving the DC metro area, I discover that there's a kyudo (Japanese archery) school a few minutes from where I'm sitting. If I didn't have so many other things going on... Apropos of nothing, here's a list of other martial arts-ish things located mere minutes from here that I wish I'd had a chance to get into: European martial arts Parkour Enshin (Knockdown) Muay thai Capoeira I've decided that this is one of the bitter pills of raising a family in the DC area. So much cool stuff around, and not enough time or money to take advantage. Perhaps I'm just not being ambitious enough.
Ah,yes. The finest example of how "enlightenment" has nothing to do with morals, ethics,or etc. Both Herrigel (via archery) and his wife (via flower arranging) were deemed by their teachers to have attained "enlightment". Both returned home to Germany to become ardent Nazis. Herrigel's got to be the only National Socialist whose work you'll find in the library of mainstream "spiritually aware" people-including people who are part of a segment of humanity which the Nat'l Socs tried to eliminate. Good book, tho'.
http://geekdad.com/2015/01/danish-archer/ An interesting explanation about the op video. Edit, doh already posted!
Yeah, impressive and all that, but can they do this? Oh well I don't think so!! http://youtu.be/zPqhL-PNyZc
On the other hand, I can totally imagine Jackson having some deformed goblin that scurries around on its hands, shooting arrows with its feet.
