Don't worry, its just memorizing patterns(, Tull or poamsae, e.tc). Breaking a bit higher up is not difficult either IMO. Your level of proficiency is not reflected in your belt.

I would expect at least a year, but if you have a lot of hours in and you are proficient in your forms then ok. I have seen TKD clubs in the states that promote people to black belt in under 2 years and some as little as 1.
