question, where in the bible does it say its wrong to be homosexual?

I am a social studies teacher and this question came up in my head lately. As a straight dude... I often hear other guys saying that its a sin in the bible. I've read the quotes where its a sin to "lye with a man the same way as you do with a women" or "not to sodomize another person/man/animal"... ok... so

sodamy/anal sex is a sin.... maybe its gods way of preventing stds hehe...

but... where does it say its a sin to love/marry/date someone of the same sex? thats what i am confused on.

because most of what i see/hear is that its a sin to sodomize or mimic male/female like sex... which is understandable. but i never read anything that was like "if your gay, you go to hell" or anything like that. anyone want to show me the right wing religious argument?

i don't want to debate this, i'm just curious about random quotes that show that its clearly wrong... thanks! often my students will debate this, which christian students often say they'll go to hell and other students say who cares...

 

I could be wrong, but I don't think it specifies that sodomy is buttsecks. Sodomy is a catch all for "sexual perversion" but I'm not sure there is any specific act defined.

 

jroe52, it does not say it. Torah states that the for a man to lie with another man as with a woman is a sin. Simply being gay is OK.

You simply ignored my question, which is ignoring the bible and the god you worship. "Thou shall not judge", how do you respond to your endless judging? Nowhere in the bible does it say being homesexual is wrong, just sodomy/anal sex and sex between two sexes. But nowhere does it say homesexuality is wrong. So why does your club waste their time judging people when this is a great sin? Is it out of ignorance to take advantage of forgivness? -Jeremy

 

IT says basically any sexual contact with a man (lying with a man like you would with a woman) pretty much is wrong. It doesn't say it is wrong for you to love men.

 

Here are the usual suspects of Bible quotes:

Could we please dispose of that argument now? I'd appreciate not being neutered, thanks. That's as miserable a concept as "love the sinner, hate the sin". I'm queer, and that entails an attraction to men.

That could mean just lying down, not neccerarily sex. Im no expert but Im pretty sure gay men have sex quite differently than a man and woman would, since men dont have vaginas.

Its all a load of nonsense imo, the only thing those quotes from the bible prove is that there were homophobes two thousand years ago. The homophobes of today are using it to justify thier own fears and bigotry, come on its only gay guys, hardly scary.

that just doesn't make sense.... since why would they allow adultery, sex without marriage and this... just seems hypocritical. i know its a story in the bible, but it would not justify lust/adultery just because its written in one small paragraph when many others say don't do this crap to any sex...


i just get frustrated with people who are closed minded since they judge others and take other quotes to use against people when they don't even solve their own problems in their own lives. theres a famous quote, in the bible, even as a buddhist i like... that is to take the thorn (speck) out of your own eye before you remove a stick from someone elses. so judge yourself before others...

These people are quite frankly, nut jobs, they are obsessive and rank with dangerous ideology. To be honest, I think they should all be arrested, maybe a shower or two with a lonely 300 pound life term felon will loosen them up.

They aren't worth the flesh they inhabit. I really hope they find themselves in the face of someone who has had enough. They are nothing more than hatefull cowards pretending to have a purpose in a life that has no use for them. Those people will never be anything more in life than a symbol of hate and ignorance, I can only hope it comes back to bite them.

(No matter what you write them they will side step, and counter with unrelated rubish. I wrote them a few times and was asked to not write back, I concluded sometimes you can't speak sense into the senseless......)

Just as a point of interest - the bible wasn't written 2000 years ago..
not by a long shot.

 

In the historical context lying with a man as you would a woman means any form of sexual contact aka. (since you evidently need it spelt out) fisting, fondling, handling, tossing, and penetrating in any sense of the word. I'm sure if you use your imagination the majority of these are possible for both genders.

What the quotes in fact prove (presuming we are still on Leviticus 18) is in fact that God is tolerant, not homophobic. He encourages love between men and woman alike, however denies what IS NOT NECESSARILY NATURAL. Men are obviously designed to mate with woman, the bible encourages this.

 

You're going to struggle to defend that one!

 

Thats not what it says, thats what people interpret it as. My point is it could be interpeted differently.

 

But your interpretation would be completely wrong as phrases such as "to lay with" and "to know" were Biblical ways of saying "go at it like rabbits". If we're gonna discuss this, it would probably be wise to stick with accepted interpretations of the languages, not make things up as we go along.

Ok, then.. God (as in the Christian god) clearly is intollerent (to the point of suggesting in the bible toture/capital punishment) of people who:

Love those of the same sex as themselves (homosexuals)
Worship any other deity (non-christians)
Do not believe in him (atheists)
are women
Don't follow the minutia of dogmatic practices (eating meat on a friday, not working on a sunday, etc etc etc)
amongst many other bigotted stances...

He also seems to let forth his vengence (in the form of really bad things happening) to lots of seemingly innocent people.

all evidence would seem to point to him not being all that keen on Africans, especially sub-saharan ones, even those that worship him..

large quantities of the world are either persecuted in Gods name (I'll bet he didn't seem so tolerent to people on the recieving end of the spanish inquisition) or have a generally rubbish time due to the random chance of where and when they happen to be born, seems pretty harsh if you ask me.

This has been gone over at least 4 times on this forum and about 3 times in this post. There is nothing wrong with men loving other men. Love is encouraged in every facet of the bible. ITs when they start doing things that men aren't usually meant to do with other men that its considered wrong.

On the contrary, he loves everyone however if you do not believe in him and accept him as your Lord you will not go to heaven. You will always have a choice whether or not to though.

The only one of these actually layed out by God is that you do not work on Sunday. All the rest of the practices are Human interpretations of Gods word and the majority are simply Jewish-faith derivatives not christian practices.

He brings forth vengeance when it is necessary based on the magnitude of crimes commited etc. You said it yourself...seemingly innocent people. What did they do to annoy God?

What evidence. It says specifically in the bible 'Abuse not your foreigner' and encourages you to be kind to people who aren't of your own race.

If you read the core teachings of the bible, namely of Jesus, you will know that these things are in no way encouraged.

The inquisition and the crusades and many other things are frowned at by true christians. The actions of some out of control vigilantes sholdn't be used as justification to say an entire religion is bogus.

Ultimately the corruption that was that church system resulted in the church breaking up. Most of that corruption is gone.

 

And last time I checked, "making love" tends to be part of relationships. So what, I can date guys as long as we stay completely celibate? Do you realize how stupid this sounds? Seriously? I expect an answer. I can't wait to tear it apart as I expect it'll be nonsensical.
