Who else is a big prog rock fan?

I love it- new and old.

Classics such as yes, pink floyd, genisis, king crimson, atomic rooster, marrilion, Emerson Lake and Palmer, caravan, camel, jethro tull and even early fleetwood mak.

There is also some great new stuff coming out at the moment as well. Spock's Beard, The Flower Kings, Rush, Dream Theatre, Transatlantic, Porcupine Tree as well as the 'heavier' side of progressive- things like Mr Bungle, Fantomas, Opeth (at times), Ephel Duath (ok maybe slightly more avante garde).

I <3 Prog rock. Most of the babds you've listed are amongst my favourites (especially Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree and Opeth).

If you fancy a hot new prog band to check out, look up some Riverside, particularly their most recent album 'Second Life Syndrome'. Very cool stuff: like a mix of Dream Theater, Pink Floyd and Opeth, without death vocals.

    bcullen They are all perfect.

Of course they do. There's always room for a Canadian power-trio; and well we are on that subject what about Triumph?

How about Kansas for the oldschool fans, and Queensryche for a more recent example?

Are Rush still going? I thought they'd packed in years ago.

I never really liked them, but I sneaked in to one of their gigs about 25 years ago ( ) so they bring back some happy memories!

I love some of Pink Floyd's stuff, but on the whole I hate prog-rock. I've always thought that it's rather geeky. Sorry! ;)

ah so you did Raisen mate.

When I was a kid they were huge but I was never really into them. But then years later I managed to pick up several albums used for pennies apiece... good stuff.
Though some people do have trouble getting past Geddy Lee's(?) winey voice.

Yeah guess I'll have to go on the DL to get some RUSH in my day.

That's true. Some of their music was very good, but Geddy Lee's voice used to set my teeth on edge. Like nails being scraped down a blackboard. Uuughhh.....

Yeah many of my mates feel the same way. Another band, though not really prog. rock, that had this same effect on many was Led Zepplin.

Yes, Robert Plant's voice could be a bit irritating at times. Like most of the time. But most of Zep's music was excellent - although the lyrics were often ridiculous.

yeah geddy lee's voice is a bit of an acquired taste :p

try out wishbone ash 'argus' for one of the best (and most accessible) prog rock albums
