So tonight I test for probationary black belt. My instructor has informed me that he intends to "bust my ****" tonight, and the instructor at my "other" school is sending up one of his top guys to spar me specifically. yikes. There are times when I wonder about my decision to tell them of my goal of being an instructor full time. Maybe I should have waited until AFTER first dan. After this test, no more point fighting for me until after my "real" fight in april. I'll work on the instructor program, work with white-green belts on their patterns, and prolly work in some sparring coaching where i can. My trainer says between now and the fight he wants to commit "kill kill kill" to muscle memory So basically, I got two instructors looking to test me hard tonight, and if I don't pass I'm not gonna be able to test again until like...July or something. No pressure, though just ranting...wish me luck folks, I need it. And an ice pack, prolly.
Dude, if they're bringing in one of their "top guys" it's presumably because you're another of their top guys. Remember that. They wouldn't be bothering if they thought you were a soup can. No worries.
Good luck! Sounds like a good hard grading.... In my club I hear the prob black tests are murder too...and take usually between 6 and 8 hours. Testing for 1st dan is quite a bit worse though...the onl do it once a year and the last one they went for just over 12 hours i think. Dude, I'm just going to grade for my orange next weekend, but hearing things like long gradings make me wonder just what the hell I've got myself into! LOL PS - I love the pain, so it's all good! Good luck! Kick some ****!
well, I guess I passed. I'll find out for sure on thursday. I remembered my pattern on the first attempt, which is a first for me Broke my boards first attempt, and sparring was OK...as usual I looked like a rhino fighting cheetahs, kickboxing style amongst very good point fighters. I had an order of Arby's curly fries to celebrate, but yall don't tell my trainer, OK? thanks for the good vibes peeps.
WTG Hux! Let us know when you get your belt! "as usual I looked like a rhino fighting cheetahs" I love that line, I may have to steal that.
