Thanks for the tip, that was a pretty comprehensive thread, I actually learnt a lot (been stretching wrong!))

    Groan....joints.... creaking

Debatable...more of a combat sport I think. One that however has had a uninterrupted transmission since the romans used a gladius....exactly same body mechanics and everything.... honest ;)

I fenced a little at school, which literally makes me the same as the real historical Russell crowe.

    And that's just science!

Wow I'm so envious...I guess in order to preserve the exact some historical techniques they had chained tigers leap out from underground at you. However did you manage to punch them in the face while wielding a 500g sport foil?

Well, it was pure odds, I was the only one who made it out alive, well there were others, but they were all horribly emotionally scarred for life.......
Turned into amoral predators who would sell their own granny for a whiff of true power....

Its amazing Eton still has such a good reputation!

    Oh my dear friend!
Is it worth debating if combat sports deserve to be called martial arts, for me they all do and are martial arts, 100%
There's no debate for me, no semantics to navigate around.

    regards

Cloudz I hear you. I don't expect anyone to follow my splitting hairs, and there are plenty of grey areas of how one form definitions what is a martial art/combat sport/self defence system. I call it as it see it is, but without any pretense that my definition is inherently superior to another: I don't see them as hierarchies of bad-assness, only activities with different emphases. My comment about being able to post was tongue in cheek, in reference to the other threads that have been taking place (Deadpool spotted it, perhaps you have too). I've been following this forum with interest for years now, more so than any fencing forum (dreadfully boring - endless arguments on rule specifics), but I always felt that unless I did something more martially mainstream I would feel like a fake interloper. Peace

    Hey,

after i posted is i think is when your allusion to the crazy roman boxing thread sunk in lol.
    nice one.

yes, i think i get that we all have different feelings when it comes to our semantic compass.. let's put it that way.
personally i wouldn't quibble it, but more than happy to sit back and let others do so :)

    happy training

Definitely look at @Van Zandt posts in particular the flexibility/stretching thread, a great routine you can do on your own.

Fencing is still a martial art, always worth having input on here.

I was out of martial arts class for 7 years and posted on here sporadically (mostly lurked) you don't need to be active to post in MAP. :)
