... exactly how should we be pronouncing the name of our style? I've heard people say it like 'moo thai', 'moy thai' and 'mo-ey thai' etc etc etc... Because I've heard so many different variations, how exactly SHOULD it be said?
I say most, but I've heard a lot of pronounciations. I also have no idea how the Thai's pronounce it.
Well, in Ong Bak they say what sounds like 'moiy thai'... But then again, some of Mr Jaa's moves aren't even muay thai... I'll find out for sure when I (hopefully) head off to Thailand next year.
At the thai restaurant where I gave a little Ram Muay demonstration, the thai's said something 'moy' thaiish. I remember it actually being somewhere in the middle--> The first sound is like u or o, ending in a: muaai thaai
moo-iii or moo-eye,try raising the pitch up on the iii or the eye,it means boxing,so muay thai=boxing thai.
Its pronounced "Moo-ay". But the two syllables are slurred together into one syllable just like saying the word "Muy" in Spanish (as pablo147 already stated)
