Hello, Here's a pic of David Gilmour wearing a jacket with a Wado badge on it A very eagle eyed Wado friend of mine spotted it whist watching the recent BBC documentary about Pink Floyd. She managed to get this screen shot of it from the BBC I player. It was only on screen for a split second! I'm not an expert on Floyd, but just looking at the picture (and the amount of hair Gilmour has) I'd say this was in the early 70's?? Anyone got info on whether Gilmour (or any other recording artists of that time) trained in Wado or any other traditional Karate? Gary
The only two that I know of are Paul Young (not sure which MA, but he was at the first Martial Aid fundraiser at Wembley Conference Centre in 1987-8) and Jean-Jacques Burnel, bass-player of The Stranglers, 6th Dan Shidokan Karate.
Hard to tell from the angle but looks about '73 to me. First I heard of him training in any martial arts but I wouldn't be all that surprised either. Cool find! I'm pretty sure Dave Mustaine from Megadeth has a dan grade in Shotokan or something along those lines and Lou Reed was a Tai Chi practitioner.
