When you hear or read the word "pants". What springs to mind? And what colour are your pants? Mine are black. And I think of underwear and things have gone wrong. Like your bad day is totally pants.
I think of that ugly type of underwear. My girlfriend who studied at an American/international high school uses it for trousers, because of course she learnt English from Americans.
As an American, pants refers to my jeans, slacks, or khakis. Currently wearing blue jeans (and blue underpants)
^^ Yes. ^^ And to answer the color question, I most often default first to a tan/khaki in my mind. But of course there's the black "slacks" color and several shades of blue denim. And green denim. One can have black denim, too. And brown corduroy.
Black pants are my preferred, followed by blue jeans. I have a pair of corduroy pants that I wear in the winter when it's very cold. And let's not forget sweat pants....
Under wear is what springs to mind. I haven't worn pants since I was a kid and they were always white Y fronts.
Black or tan cargos or, black or blue jeans are my standard goto pant. If it is work pants then I go for grey or tan but happily I can go to work in jeans or cargos
