This may be of interest to anyone practicing this martial arts here in the UK. It was given to me by one of my students who is very well known in UK reenactment circles here in the UK.

    Consultation on new legislation on
    offensive and dangerous weapons

This consultation begins on 14 October 2017
This consultation ends on 9 December 2017

Basically it says "Possession of offensive weapons
in private There are already strict controls on particular offensive weapons, including certain types of knives whicare listed in the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order 1988.
In Scotland, these weapons are listed in the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) (Scotland) Order 2005. These are weapons that have been considered by Parliament to be especially dangerous. It is an offence to sell, manufacture, hire, loan or gift these weapons. This offence
is in addition to the general offences of possessing a knife or offensive weapon in public or school grounds. In England and Wales, there are nineteen different weapons listed as offensive weapons
and they include items such as the “belt buckle knife”, “butterfly knife” and“push dagger”. Most recently, in August2016,we added zombie knives to this listas we were concerned
that such knives had no legitimate use and were designed to appeal to young men and intimidate and encourage violence. In Scotland, there are seventeen different weapons listed as offensive weapons. There are also similar prohibitions in respect of flick knives and gravity knives in section 1
of the Restriction of Offensive Weapons Act 1959
We want to create a new offence aimed at the possession of such offensive weapons whether in public or private. This would allow the police to be
    able to seize such weapons"

The part that is relevant is "We want to create a new offence aimed at the possession of such offensive weapons whether in public or private. This would allow the police to be
able to seize such weapons" Which means that if you own kusari gama, kyoketsu shoge, shuriken etc you will be breaking the law just to have them in your house.

I think the key element here is to be involved in the consultation, have you a link for the consultation?

There have been three i can think of including this one, the ban on "zombie knives" and the introduction of E.U legislation for deactivated weapons. Three posts you could have made! :p

What do they mean by targeted stop and searches? Is it anything diffrent than the standing stop and search policies/laws?

    "Zombie knife"? What?

Anyway, in the USA, that's how the gun owners feel about the cries for so-called "sensible legislation." They've never shot anything except the target at the shooting range. You've never cut anyone with your ninja weapon. Why is everyone picking on them? Why is everyone picking on you? Ya, it sucks. It's irrational. It's not fair.

Imagine you had a Glock 22.....now imagine you had a Glock 22 with a green handle

That's the difference between zombie and non-zombie - they are objecting to the MARKETING not the actual implement

To be fair, zombie knifes are generally cheap tat, cheap tat that gets carried by teenagers that stab people, so you can see a correlation / connection, but it's a badly worded piece of legislation, that just pushes the problem onto something else.

You can equally buy the same cheap tat without the green handle and about $10 less

Sensible gun owners statistically don't have a problem with background checks, having the cdc carry out studies, and having a computer checked registar of firearms, however somehow politically thats seen as over the top.

Exactly my point, it's knee jerk Legislation, you'd be better enforcing higher penalties for those upto no good carrying in public, those selling to. Kids, and employing more police in general.
But that takes money and effort.

Yes this seems like a reoccurring theme, blame the particular item, rather than deal with the people that misuse them.

I recall the nunchuck thing from 30-40 years ago, they went as far as banning them in movies in Britain also, and that wasn't lifted until the late 90s.

Would it be illegal to carry a gumshield in your pocket in UK? It could come in handy on a night out!

It'll look premeditated, and mean your unlikely to claim SD, also it would take too long

I believe you would need a decent justification for carrying a gum shield.
I'd suspect the police could say you were "prepared for violence" or words to that effect.

What hannibal put, they also didn't define it well, from the piece i saw, it just means any knife they view as abstract is defined as a "zombie knife".

Last i rememebr though the weighted chains have been banned for a while, same with rope and the chain and sickle combo.

Also most people who care about this dont like it either.
