Participated in my fifth Interclub bout today. This event was a mixture of Muay Thai, Kickboxing, and Boxing and was co-operatively hosted by Muay Thai 8 (the club I train under) and Bulwell Fight Factory. I was on first in the Muay Thai bouts. Were you suffering any ill effects from the bout the other weekend? Seems soon to be competing again but are inter clubs more relaxed affairs? Mitch
I had a minor shin impact injury from the fight last weekend which was why I was wearing two shinguards on the right leg (had a neoprene shinguard underneath the leather Thai shinguard). Other than that I was fine. Would normally probably rest such an injury a week longer but, as it was a home event, I wanted to represent my club so I decided not to pull out of the event (had another fighter on standby in case I wasn't feeling it). This was one of the more relaxed interclub bouts I've had to be honest.
Ive seen Bukauw fights on youtube and this looks nothing like it. This looks more like light sparring to me. And how the heck do they expect yall to be able to fight in that tiny ring.
It probably is. Nothing wrong with light contact, it's a good chance to try and get a feel for your style of movement and ring work. And Buakaw is an animal of a man, comparing him to most people is unfair. ========== Awesome vid UC. You're starting to look really relaxed and comfortable in the ring
It's an interclub. There are (usually) no decisions at interclubs. The decision fight was last week. In general an interclub shouldn't be about battering each other senseless. It should be about testing your skills against a similar weight and experienced opponent under light to medium contact conditions (usually, though naturally some get carried away). Save the beatings for the real thing. The majority of gyms I have fought at do not have a full size ring. And believe it or not I have been in smaller. Thanks mate.
Thats about the same size as the ring I spar in! All about the inside work. Good stuff UC, racking up the points quickly!
Yeah, small rings are good for encouraging sparring at close quarters. I was actually shocked by how big the ring was when I fought last weekend. I felt like a house dog let out onto a plain for the very first time, lol. The ring at my old Kickboxing club was near half the size, lol. Thanks mate.
