They're a lot lighter and less hard-hitting than City of God, but still very good. I've watched all the first series, and am about to start on the second one.
Will have to add it to my online dvd rental list! City of God was pretty hard going, but still an excellent film.
Godzilla eats Tokyo and Godzilla vs. The killer Bees. ... Much better than City of God. They're a bit on the fantastical side but wowie the ground shook! Unfortunately everyone and everything died and took the movies along for the ride too.
"Let him have it" is a very moving film. It's closely based on the true story of a mentally retarded epileptic lad, who gets mixed up with a psycopathic criminal. During the corse of a robbery, the psycho kills a cop, and the retarded lad got hanged - despite the fact that he played no part in the killing. The case was a major factor in the death sentance being abolished in the UK, but all these years later, his family are still fighting to clear his name.
I saw that a while back IT WAS a very moving film. You should hear the one about the last man to get hanged in Cyprus by the British.. There is a book, but no film yet, the sting in the tail is quite breathtaking. He was my Great Grandfather, he never did get the posthumous pardon he deserved. His son was also quite the activist against Greek Fascism that led to the war. Oh the moving stories i could tell you..
Dunno if anyone has already mentioned this (I can't be buttocked to look back over 13 pages ) but the end of "Blackadder Goes Forth" where they go "Over the Top" to a slow instrumental of the Blackadder theme, explosions, flashes as Blackadder and the adds charge in slow motion before giving way to a field of poppies. Awesome and very thought-provoking.
dittos to the last two on a side note, saw ghost rider yesterday. not really a moving movie, but fun. i enjoyed it - sam elliot was fantastic, & nick cage didn't do a bad job, either!
'Mona Lisa'. The climactic scene on the pier has such an outpouring of raw emotion, it's impossible not be to moved. Superb acting. And speaking of emotional climactic scenes on piers... 'Falling Down'.
