Commando Krav Your concerns re Commando Krav Maga are bang on the nose. Commando Krav Maga is a 30 hour course with no prior experience required. It would be fair to say that instructors standards are variable. We had one chap tried instructor training with us at the British Krav Maga Association. He was a lovely guy but no skills at all, Eventually after 5 days trying to help him it became obvious he was not going to make the standard so we had to drop him from the Instructor course - always a difficult thing. It was clear that he was not going to make the level required to be a competant instructor over the 18 days. Nice guy, so we tried hard to help him. However he simply did not have the skill set or co-ordination to teach krav maga. 2 months later we hear he is a Commando krav maga instructor. Point is CKM passed him as an instructor in 3 days and although a lovely guy was neither competant nor fit enough to be a credible teacher. Grading by cheque book... Issues like this reflect the reaity of commando krav maga - its monis own system (fair enough) but its not krav maga and the instructor requirements are not high. Interestingly most commando krav maga instructors drop out after a year or so and attempt to associate themselves with krav maga by dropping the 'Commando' bit and claimming to be krav maga instructors. We have one of these in Bristol. I would not mind so much but claiming to be a real krav instructor when they have domne a 3 day course is irritating for those of us who have trained through a genuine and credible course.
