Ummmmm ... how in the world do you get an outdated and anachronistic weapon such as the sword under the guise of a show called Modern Marvels? One of these days I figure I'll have the time and patience to watch it and find out, but until then I'll just chuckle about it.
I was wondering that myself. However, the sword was still used on the field (albeit rarely) into the modern period. In WWI, Allied trainers allowed for the possibility that some German troops would have been trained in classical swordsmanship. And the U.S. Civil war (the first "modern" war) saw cavalry equipped with sabres. Best regards, -Mark
Well after watching it you've got to give 10 out of 10 to John Clements for enthusiasm though I've always gone for the less is more approach to swordsmanship. Not sure what he was doing with that sword and buckler though I have to admit to not being an expert in I33 and I fear I simply don't have the legs for tights. The Bear.
