Mini Map Meet - The Gathering.

Just a brief update.

Costs will be £25.00.

We'll not be setting up as just giving page for this event, as we'll not be able to deduct the cost of the hall, which will be paid for from the takings on the day.

Clarity is very important to us, so I think the best thing to do is collect takings on the day and I'll pay for the hall (£120.00), then donate the profits to the Just Giving page that will be set up at a later date for the event in June.

By doing it this way the charity Chect will still benefit.

It will be quite clear when the Just Giving page is set up that the money raised for this event is there for all to see.

I bought the materials for another 10 padded sticks today, so I know what I'll be up to over the weekend.

 

From raw material to padded stick.

I've done (so far) 10 regular size padded sticks and half a dozen or so smaller knife size ones.

The plastic pipe was found at work during a recent move, the foam outer cost about £1.00 per length, so £10.00 so far, and the duct tape about £5.00 per roll and I've used two rolls.

 

ER, um, yeah, I've got a bad leg, dog's got a cold, have to wash my hair.

Zaad, is coming though, he'll be happy to assist.









































Don't worry folks. This is still on and I'll be there from 09.30.

 

Just two weeks to go and for those of you with a few injuries or fitness issues I'd say, "don't worry, this event isn't a fitness contest".

I'll start off with rattan sticks and give a short tuition of some basic fundamentals.

• How to strike
• Where to strike
• Angles of attack
• How to block
• How to block, then strike

Once you have the basics we'll move onto the padded sticks.

Nice and light to start. I do have a couple of headguards and hockey gloves, but do bring your own headguard if you have one.

We'll have two minute bouts and just two on the mat at a time, so plenty of time for recovery.

Initially we'll start with strikes to lead hand and leg only. This will give those who've never done stick before a chance to build confidence and timing.

Second session with be all targets still using padded sticks and again two minute bouts.

Third session will be padded sticks and empty hand/foot. Can you get in your punches and kicks when faced with a stick weilding MAPper?

I'm sure they'll be time for other options, which include:

• Double stick
• Stick and knife
• WEKAF sparring

WEKAF sparring is with rattan sticks and I have a few sets off full body armour and helmets we can use.

Cost is £25 and is payable on the day.

I hope to be able to video all fights and get a load of pictures too.

One week to go and we have a dilemma.

Mascarenhas may be bringing his girlfriend, so do we teach him how to defend himself against her, or do we teach her how to beat him with a stick? :dunno:
