Just have to vent...in hopes that I don't say this out loud at 4:00

I do not like meetings and I have a meeting at 4:00...a remote phone in meeting....there is no agenda...it is being billed as a get together, to catch up....since we are all home most of the time due to Covid.....I hate meetings with an agenda...generally things can be figured out and/or fixed much faster without them....But I hate meetings without an agenda more...... it goes from having a high potential to be a waste of time...to a complete and utter waste of time.....

OK, sorry for the frivolous post to all at MAP, but it did keep me from responding to the question "How are you doing" with the answer along the lines of...., "fine, at least until this silly meeting started" (silly is a much cleaner replacement for what I actually wanted to say)

It sounds like a lot of meetings I've heard about at 4pm that started since everyone is at home.

It stinks of "this meeting is to check you have clocked off early, and stay online until the end of your day".

Once a week ok, but every day, that sounds like a waste.

One day last week I had six Zoom meetings lasting over eight hours total. The new normal...kinda sucks.

(Not actually complaining, far better this than the alternative, just venting a bit)

I wish I had some money to invest in Zoom before this all started, that's for sure. They started 2020 at $68, they closed today at $268. I wish I had some money.

Definitely a company that has done well out of the situation.

In my role I have always done remote meetings with people internationally, so having an 8 hour day of remote session isn't unusual for me, but I can see how it takes adjusting to.

I've been working from home 7+ years, even then I feel the difference during lockdown of not being able to get out and meet with people for consensual violence or other activities.

I keep seeing people put lunch time meetings in also, usually with your guise of "lunch and learn" or "laid back catch-up", but this is just taking advantage of people being stuck at home.

We've had increased metrics on our efficiency, it's all about milking every drop out of us and making sure that no one is doing less than red lining all the time.
Unfortunately this work mentality is detrimental to long term performance, burn outs will happen, mistakes are the working version of injury from overtraining in sport, and mistakes cost more money.

I've had a lot of "zoom" discussions, but general rule was none after 1630 and must end by 1700.

We have a virtual "pub lunch" on a Friday afternoon where we shoot the breeze and take the Michael. We've also done some trivial pursuit sessions, pub quiz's, etc.
There are even Pilates and Yoga sessions put on by my company but I've not partaken.
Work wise we have a regular project catch up for the whole team each week and then the odd smaller specific team catch up too. Not much other than that.

I like the idea of the virtual pub lunch on a Friday afternoon. Something I used to have in previous companies (US company now so the time doesn't match).

Literally the only thing that will change for me when things are "normal" (they're getting that way but not quite) is that I'll go back to training and get back into archery.
Everything else is pretty much OK as is.
I even like the shopping system...queue to get into the shop, scan my own items in a shop where there aren't that many people and they stay out of my way (by and large), a bit more politeness and then straight through the till and out.

  13. I have three meetings a week by Microsoft teams. I find them tiring, waste of my energy and basically don't get much out of them. I don't like the camera aspect and turn it off for most of them.

I kinda wish I had online meetings with people. Imagine how much better the bosses would treat me if they realised that in the background are a katana and a kukri and occasionally a couple of bokken and jo? (We need the old angel smiley back for posts like this so they don't come across as so... psychotic...)

I work remotely and use zoom and ms teams. Luckily I run most the meetings I have, and I make them on point and results oriented. If there isn't work to be done or an objective I don't have the meeting. I also am goofy and my meetings are fun and productive. If I get asked to a meeting, I always ask the purpose. Usually I can get out of it because I wouldn't be essential to it. But yeah I had my fair share of bad meetings and huge time wasters. I have problems being social and come across as delayed/immature at times, but I like people too much to not want to meet.
