So plans have changed some, and the practice area for our new house will be a covered concrete patio. That ought to be fine for hyung and basic weapons practice, but not something I want to intentionally fall on.

Anyone have experience with mats outdoors?

I didn't see anything on the Swain website about outdoor applications, it seems to assume they'd be inside. I suppose if it were roll-up, we could roll it up and keep it against the house when not in use.

Those foam interlocking pieces are something else I'm looking into.

Are there other options I haven't checked out yet?

wrestling mats are always an option - they do roll up. You could use indoor mats and put down a tarp or canvass over the patio. That way the bottoms wouldn't get damaged, but you'd have to carry them inside when you were done using them for fear of rain.

don't leave a rolled up wrestling mat outside.

zebra mats would probably be best, especially if you can swing a frame for them (2x4).

Thank you both. I'm not sure I'll have space for a rolled up wrestling mat inside, but I can look into how big / heavy they are and think about it.

I'll look up zebra mats too.
