So who is coming along? If you are still in doubt I can tell you you'll make new friends for life. I have also either trained at, or taken sessions for Unreal Combat, John Titchen and Dan Bian thanks to the MAP Meets. I have been bent in half by Paralympic champions, thrown by world class wrestlers, kicked by world class Muay Thai practitioners, stupidly shaken hands with Smurf, chopped in half by the HEMA guys, mixed it up with Ninjas and rolled with Pretty in Pink I have attended several of John Titchen's SIM Days thanks to meeting him at MAP Meets. I've been helped by Icefield, HeWho, Vince, bassai, Dunc, Mushroom to name but a few, and impressed by the likes of Nachi and of course made a business partner and friend in Mitch. The list goes on, but you get the idea. The MAP Meets are awesome.
I’d just like to second Simons post , map meets have opened so many martial arts doors for me over the years , if not for them I’d be really awful , instead of average.
Still coming, still happy to pick up and drop off in the Shropshire area, or anywhere nearish! As everyone's saying, it's a great time! You'll meet cool people, learn fun things, and there's a solid chance your social media feed becomes 150% more entertaining and informative if you ask people their names!
Final announcements on instructors to follow in the next few days, we really have an embarrassment riches with so many top quality people offering their time. Thank you so much to everyone, you're all brilliant. Please don't be offended if I don't take you up on an offer to teach, I just want to get a balance of different styles to appeal to everyone. I'm open to suggestions on charities to support; Cancer Research is a cause I will always support, but if you have one close to your heart please feel free to post ideas.
I've not spoken to Mitch about this yet, but we will plan for the MAP Meet to go ahead while keeping a close eye on the coronavirus and government advice at the time. We will keep you updated.
Hi folks, after a lot of soul searching and a discussion with Simon, I've decided to cancel the MAP Meet this year. I had hoped to "wait and see" a while longer, but there is simply too much uncertainty at the moment, I think we face an extended period of lockdown, and many people will be facing financial hardship once restrictions are eased. I want to thank everyone who so willingly gave up their time to help organise, or to volunteer to teach, or simply to enthuse about this fabulous event. Rest assured there will be another full MAP Meet next year, and we may try to organise something smaller once all this craziness is over.
This was the most sensible decision we could come to. Even if the lockdown ends in another month many of us will have by then been laid off by our employers, or put on reduced hours. To then ask people to pay for an event would have been wrong.
I'll post some footage from previous meets over the next few days. It's been enjoyable looking back through old videos.
I think it's the right decision, as much as I was really looking forward to coming and teaching. Count me in for next year.
