I've beenn wanting to teach this drill at a MAP Meet for years - Dumog.

In the first video Sent A grabs Student B around the upper arm and tucks their head away for safety.

It's the job of Student A to push and pull Student B to stop then rooting.

In this second video a twist, or angle off is added.

If Student B gets rooted, or if there is a gap in the push/pull, then Student A is vulnerable to a punch.

You'll see lots of gaps between the students and this is covered later.

After this video I told the students that if they've ever thought they could push over one of the little old ladies in the park that does tai Chi then they were mistaken.

I had Wayne (dunc's student) try and uproot me and he couldn't. I explained how the choke points worked to uproot the opponent and that a lot more physicality was required.

In this next video hopefully you'll see a lot more push, pull and twist, while keeping the head tucked away.

I'm hoping Mitch caught the final drill, which has Student B wearing boxing gloves.

The drill was for Student A to rag doll Student B while they were trying to punch them in the head or body.

A tough drill that we did in 30 second bursts, as it's physically taxing.

    Great work from all involved.

I videoed you punching Chadderz which I think was the next stage. I've not taken it off the camera yet as I've been clearing old backups from the external drive to free space.

I'm currently uploading all the videos onto our new You Tube channel.

The link is in my signature. I'll have them all up by the end of the day.

Mitch has some videos to upload at a later date.

I'll also get the pictures uploaded into a video too.

It's been nice to have the feedback from the charities you've helped.

Last night we recapped one of the techniques from the MAP meet so I thought I'd share it here

    https://vimeo.com/168901744

The quality of the vid isn't great - apologies, but hopefully shows:
    - the way of setting up your opponent's legs to make defending the groin difficult
    - the way of kicking "around corners" using the instep
    - a takedown with the transition to control on the floor
    - a finish that retains freedom of movement (key for old school MA's and perhaps SD scenarios)

    Hope it's of interest

One of Mitch's students under the instruction of Ruth.

Picture taken during Unreal Combat's Muay Thai session.

What you don't see is Mitch telling his student off for not pivoting. :D

Nice to see so many young faces and the next generation at the Meet.

To be fair to him because of the difference in kicking style I usually start students off by kicking straight up into a pad so to get them used to the baseball bat swing motion of the kick. Then start looking at getting hip and foot rotation involved.

It's hard for people who are used to practicing other styles of kicking to just jump into Thai style kicking so I try and break it down. The other lad in the photo nailed it pretty quickly despite having not done any training in combat sports before.

    Good hand positioning though. :D

The hand positioning is something I took from your session last year.

During warmup I used to get my guys practicing how to do a version of the twist dance move and exaggerate it to help them get used to how the hands should move in motion with the hips during kicking. I found it a great and fun way to teach the hand positioning as I think that's pretty important to nail if you want to develop power.

    Good work from Chadderz.

Here is the final section of the Dumog drill. Chadderz has to position himself safely, stop me from rooting while I try to steady myself and hit him in the body or head.

The idea is that he completely rag dolls me.
